Note: In Utah, 160,000 students ride school buses
more than 28 million miles to and from school each year. Nationally, 25 million
children ride the school bus each day. The National Research Council statistics
show school buses to be one of the safest forms of transportation. For every
100,000 passenger miles, school buses incur 0.01 deaths compared to 0.04 for
passenger trains, 0.06 for scheduled airlines and 0.94 for passenger cars.
