GATE (Granite Adult Transition Education)

The GATE program helps students prepare for what comes next after they turn 22 years old. After several years in the more structured high school enviroment, students are readys for practical exposures to the real world.

GATE is directed by licensed teachers working closely with a full staff of paraeducators who endeavor to expand students' horizons. The GATE philosophy is that every student, no matter how severe his or her disablilities, is capable of living, working, and recreating in the community.

The focus of the GATE program is to help students become as independent as possible as they look forward to life beyond school.

Key components of the program are:

  • Develop basic employablity skills
  • Refinements of social and behavioral skills
  • Increased independence using public transportation
  • Development of independent living skills
  • Collaboration with parents and adult service providers
  • Increasing one's circle of friends and social networks
  • Discovering and developing students' innate talents and interest
