                      Recognition

In order for the partnership to keep the momentum moving toward long term goals, it’s important that recognition be given to those donating time, talents or resources. The company’s efforts need to be honored among its peers and public. No one likes to give a gift and not be thanked—especially a gift requiring a significant sacrifice of time and resources. It’s essential for the school and its students to express sincere gratitude on a regular basis.

This recognition may be public or private, formal or informal, but it should be consistently given throughout the duration of the partnership. A token gift or ceremony at the end of the year isn’t enough.

So what can you do to show gratitude?

·  Promote visibility by submitting positive information to the public about the partner’s efforts. Provide examples to be used in press releases, human interest articles, and news reports. Make sure parents know of the positive contribution in their child’s life.

·  Send thank you notes from students and teachers.

·  Provide space in the school (i.e. a bulletin board, wall, etc.) to highlight partnership activities.

·  Have students create art work for display at the place of business.

·  Honor your partner with an actual adoption ceremony or special program.

·  If your school has a monthly newsletter or calendar for parents, provide space for a partnership column.

·  Feature your partner's logo on your school or business website.

·  Give an update on activities and share positive feedback at PTA/PTSA meetings.

·  Remember to share school and student success stories with the partners—especially when they were involved. Help them to be aware of the good that they are doing.

·  Have the coordinators take photos of the partnership at work. Post these at the school and business workplace.

·  Celebrate significant holidays and anniversaries together through parties, assemblies, and other activities.

·  Spotlight volunteers during assemblies.

There are multitudes of ways that you can show recognition to your business partner. The most important thing is to do it. There’s no substitute for a gracious, genuine expression of gratitude
