Registration August at the school office from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. School motto “Where Reading Comes First!” Extracurricular programs Bubble school and Little Bubble School are after-school tutoring programs to assist our students in reading and math. Mill Hollow (summer program) Computer lab is open at 8:00 a.m. School background West Kearns Elementary School was built in 1954 with later additions to meet the growing population of the neighborhood. For many years the building housed two schools; an upper grade school and a lower grade school with student populations as high as 1400 students! As the residents in the area matured, the school has declined in population and it is now one school administered by one principal and an Assistant Principal. However, it is still very large serving 675 students and over 150 preschool students, including Head Start. We are a Reading First School.....reading comes first! Enrollment The school is ethnically diverse with about 40% Caucasian, 54% Hispanic, 2% Pacific Islander, 2% Black, 1% Asian and 1% Native American students. Computers and technology We have three computer labs. Each classroom has a minimum of two computers where students can access Accelerated Reader, CCC and address other classroom needs. All of our upper grades are equipped with Smartboards in order to enhance learning.
