Policies and Procedures for Reconsideration
of Library-Media Materials

School
When a patron wishes to challenge an item, a "Request for Reconsideration of Library Materials" form should be filled out completely.  Following the return of the form, the members of the School Library Committee should read (view/listen to) and fill out a review form evaluating the challenged item giving particular consideration to the concerns that were addressed by the patron.  Upon the receipt of this form, the District Library Media Specialist should also be informed.
The school library committee's decision should be given to the person(s) issuing the request as soon as possible.

District

If the library media committee's decision does not satisfy the person(s) requesting reconsideration of materials, then the school principal should direct them to the District Library Media Specialists who will direct the District Library Media Selection Committee to review the challenged material.
A written decision from this committee will be given to the patron requesting the review as soon as possible.  The same written decision will also be given to the local school principal concerned so that appropriate action may be taken.
