Adopt-A-School

Over 400 businesses and 90 Granite District schools in the Salt Lake Valley participate in our Adopt-A-School Program. Your company’s involvement can be as widespread as you’d like. Business associates can participate at every level. History has shown us that, without exception, participation increases morale and enhances individual lives.

In planning efforts and activities, a coordinator from your company will work directly with a school coordinator. Energies may be focused on the school as a whole, or individual teachers, classes, or students.

WHAT You Can Do
Share your expertise and insights. Donate those resources your company has to offer – whether human, physical, or financial. Encourage employees to act as tutors or mentors. Give a practical, work-based edge to teacher training or curriculum planning. Sponsor teacher appreciation programs or school pride days. Set up internships, or meaningful school, class, or student projects, or assist in teaching resume’ writing, interviewing, and other job-related skills.

The list is endless. Be creative. As you spend time in your adopted school, you’ll quickly see needs and recognize your company’s ability to fill them.

WHY Participate
Education and business need one Another. Education cannot effectively prepare students to be responsible members of the community without the aid of business. On the other hand, business cannot prosper or compete globally without becoming involved in education.
By getting involved, you’re training future employees, as well as government and civic leaders. And by helping schools produce better trained, better educated, and better prepared graduates, you encourage future growth economically.

By donating your resources to help a school, you increase awareness of your company and earn the loyalty of scores of students, teachers, and their families. (Not to mention promoting goodwill in the community.)Finally, the fact remains—doing something good for others will bring joy to your life, plain and simple.

WHERE It Can Go
The sky’s the limit. That’s what’s so great about the program, you’re in control. You determine what you put in, and the resulting outcome.

HOW It Works

Once you’ve consented to become an adoptive “parent,” a member of the Adopt-A-School committee will arrange to meet with you. During this meeting, we’ll talk about your vision for your company’s participation, and based on this, we’ll draw up a business profile explaining that vision. This profile will be studied, and matched with the school most effectively meeting your company’s expectations.

The committee will then arrange a meeting between you, your company coordinator, the principal, and the school coordinator. From this point on, you’ll work directly with the school in planning and executing your unique partnership. However, the committee is always available as a resource should questions arise.
