Computers and Technology                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Magna has two school computer labs with 30 computers each. The labs are networked and available to all classes daily. The Instructional lab is supervised by a full-time certified teacher to address all computer problems along with teaching skills such as keyboarding, research through electronic encyclopedias or Internet, multimedia presentations such as Power Point and HyperStudio. In addition, reading, math and language skills are included as supplemental enhancement to classes as needed. Each classroom is equipped with 2-3 networked computers along with a 27" TV that can be hooked up to a multimedia computer with CD-ROM and laser disk player to expand all subjects. The 30 station Curriculum lab is staffed by a daily aide, paid from School Lands Trust money provided by the legislature. Students receive reading and math reinforcement twice each week. The classroom teacher and lab aide supervise the students and answer questions. Student scores are used to check progress throughout the year.

Reading Instruction and Reading Specialist                                                                                                                                                                                           Magna Elementary has a two full-time reading specialist and one half-time reading specialist. They provide small group instruction, Reading Recovery classes, and help with class reduction in the first grade. The entire school has adopted Houghton-Mifflin reading, which is an outstanding program that allows teachers to differentiate instruction according to individual student needs. We also have a school library and literacy center. Our librarian holds Bachelors, Masters, and Juris Doctor’s degree. The literacy center is staffed with a literacy aide to facilitate the use of our leveled library materials. Students are encouraged to read at home every day. We have a saying at Magna Elementary that all students know and take to heart, "The more you read, the better you read." We also participate in the Accelerated Reading program, which allow our students to test their comprehension of the books they have read and earn valuable points for prizes that are provided by the school and PTA.

Student Extra-Curricular Activities                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Magna Elementary provides many exciting extra-curricular activities. They are all designed to reinforce reading and math skills taught during the school day in fun, exciting, and interesting ways. Students who participate enjoy greater self-esteem and have a greater sense of belonging and friendship at the school. We are home to the Magna Book Club, Social Skills Club, Garden Club, Magna Music Makers, Science Club, Math Olympiad, and the Magna Jump Team. Students may participate in the Safety Patrol and the Youth Crime Watch Buddies. We encourage our students to pick activities to enrich their learning experience.
