PARENT INVOLVEMENT PLAN

Parents are linked to the recruitment of students. Parents will be required to attend a minimum of three parent MESA meetings during the school year (e.g. Back to School Night, Parent/Teacher Conference, Recruitment, Counseling and Goal Setting/ MESA field trip/ MESA meeting). At least one meeting must be a MESA Parent meeting and Parent's will be encouraged to attend all MESA Parent Meetings.

Additionally, parents will be obligated to give their support for their child's participation in the program. This support may be in the form of encouragement, tutoring, monitoring of performance, and other general ways of support as maybe needed by their child as they participate in the program. For example, parents may request of the school MESA team that their student be tutored in math and science.

MESA informational pamphlets describing the program, goals and objectives will be mailed to the parents of target students. Additionally, pamphlets regarding careers in engineering, math, science and medical programs will be distributed to parents in parent meetings.

Parents must complete the Parent Authorization Form and sign the Student Contract with their respective students.

MESA parents will be encouraged to volunteer in the MESA program as
chaperones, guest speakers, mentors or tutors.

The Granite District Ethnic Minority Parent Advisory Committee (EMPAC) to the Department of Educational Equity (who will administer the MESA program) and is made up of members of the Ethnic Communities represented in Granite District will review the MESA plan and offer guidance on program development and parent involvement. MESA parents will be encouraged to seek membership on this committee.

The School MESA Team must document all Parent Activities. The must also send out district pamphlets and/or District Newsletters or MESA club newsletters.
