YouthWorks
Salt Lake Neighborhood Housing Services

NHS is a grassroots, community-based organization created in 1977. NHS targets neighborhoods experiencing decline and develops strategies and partnerships along with residents, lending institutions, businesses, and city governments to revitalize these neighborhoods.

One extremely effective NHS strategy developed through these partnerships is the YouthWorks program. YouthWorks is a community-based program targeting youth between the ages of 16-18 who are having difficulty making a successful transition from youth to adulthood. YouthWorks provides these Community Builder participants with comprehensive skill building experiences in an employment/training environment. Within this environment, the youth have a wide array of experiences in which to practice the skills they learn - everything from drug and alcohol prevention to healthy family lifestyles, and from employment training to community service involvement.

YouthWorks provides skill development in two areas:

1. Life skills development
2. Employment skills development
