School background The school was constructed in 1973 in West Valley City. All students walk to school. Monroe Elementary was remodeled in October, 2003. Breakfast and lunch programs are offered.
Enrollment Monroe Elementary serves 850 students from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Two all day and three half day kindergarten classes are available. Preschool and Head Start are available both morning and afternoon. In addition we house two all day preschool classes.
Monroe Elementary serves a very diverse student population. We are: 33.6% Caucasian 44.5% Hispanic 6.6% Asian 8.9% Pacific Islander 1.2% Native American 2% African-American
Computers and technology All fifth and sixth grade classrooms are eMINTS with a computer for every two students in the class. Two fourth grade and one third grade classrooms are ETC (Enhancing Teaching with Technology). One third grade and one first grade class are eMINTS for All with enhanced technology used by teachers to promote learning. Monroe has two computer labs used to teach core curriculum objects and to reinforce reading and math skills. In addition, Imagine Learning English software is used in both labs to support English language development and early literacy.
Student promotion All students who are promoted attend West Lake Junior High and Granger High School.
Awards and Distinctions The National Center for Family Literacy has designated Monroe Elementary as a National Family Literacy site. In addition, we are a National Distinguished Title 1 school and a Gold Medal School -- Platinum.
