School background Calvin Smith Elementary is located in the south central area of Granite School District. It was built in 1979 to serve the growing population of the Bennion area.  Calvin Smith is mainly a walking school, but busing is provided for students living in our boundaries east of Redwood Road and in the Harvey Heights neighborhood. Enrollment Smith Elementary serves approximately 615 students from kindergarten through sixth grade, and two preschool classrooms. Approximately 85% are Caucasian. 2.5% are Asian, 2.5% are Pacific Islander. 9% are Hispanic/Latino, .7% are African-American and .1% are American Indian. Computers and Technology The entire building has internet access. Every classroom has at least one Pentium workstation with CD ROM. We have two computer labs; one for YPP testing and the other as a project lab.  We also have support equipment including fax, laser printers, and computer projectors.  Our STS is in the building for support one day per week.
