What do professional school counselors do?
Professional school counselors implement comprehensive counseling and guidance programs that begin on the first day of school and end the last day of school.
IN THE COUNSELING CENTER . . .

Counselors plan and implement a school guidance program that includes district guidance program goals

Set annual school-wide goals to help students become successful
-
Meet individually with every student in their case load at least once during a school year

Keep accurate student records

Involve parents in the guidance program process

Conduct group SEOP meetings

Teach guidance activities to all students

Organize a full year guidance program calendar

Work to provide the best schedule possible for every student

Facilitate referrals and identify resources for students who need extra support in school

Organize and conduct school steering and advisory committees

Articulate with counselors from network schools (school feeder system)

Support administrators and overall school improvement goals

Collect data to inform thier practice

Participate in professional learning at district and state level

Respond to student and family crises
