The Creative Pursuit Challenge includes three parts: |
| |
- Creative Pursuit Problem (product)
- Two Impromptu Problems (creative thinking)
- An Original Presentation (creative dramatics)
|
|
|
Students are given a long-term problem to solve during a four week period. At the end of that period a "bowl" is held in which the students compete with teams from their own classroom and /or school for the opportunity to enter district competition. Bowls are organized at the school, district and interdistrict levels. At a district bowl, esach team is evaluated on their solution to the long-term problem, two impromptu problems and their presentation. The scores from the long-term problem and impromptu problems are totaled to determine the teams that will represent thier district in the interdistrict competition. |
| A. CREATIVE PURSUIT LONG-TERM PROBLEM |
- Problem specifications and guidelines for each Creative Pursuit problem are established by an interdistrict committee.
- Students are given this problem in advance so that they have time to prepare their solution. Students use their creative and critical thinking skills (productive thinking, decision making, planning, communicating, forcasting, etc) to design and create a product to effectively solve the problem.
- Students work in teams comprised of five members.
- Parents or teachers may assist as coaches, but all work must be accomplished by the students.
- Student costs are kept to a minimim. Financial records must be maintained and submitted at the competition.
- Teams have approximately four weeks from the announcement of the problem until the district bowl.
|
| B. CREATIVE PURSUIT IMPROMPTU PROBLEMS |
- Impromptu problems require "on-the-spot" brainstorming since they must be addressed without advance knowledge of the content of the problems.
- Two impromptu problems are presented at the bowl. One problem is verbal and the other is figural.
- Students are allowed one minute to think and two and one-half minutes to respond to problems posed at the bowl. Answers must be given in sequence by each member of the team; if one member is slow to reapond, the entire team is delayed.
- Teams may have one adult recorder to write down student responses to each problem
- Problems are scored for fluency, flexibility, and originality.
|
| C. CREATIVE PURSUIT PRESENTATION |
- Students use their communication skills in a timed presentation to demonstrate or "sell" their solution (product) or ideas.
- All props, costumes and scenery must be made by students using a specified list of items.
- Presenations are scored separately. This score is not included with the Creative Pursuit long term problem and impromptu provlem scores.
