Employee Insurance Annual Enrollment Period

October 1 through October 15

The annual employee insurance open enrollment period will be held this year earlier than in years past.  October 1 through October 15 is when contract employees may make changes to their insurance package.  Most changes and elections that are made will be effective on January 1, 2009.

Attending an open enrollment fair is one of the best ways to get information about insurance plans you are interested in.  Representatives from the insurance companies, the district Insurance Office and the negotiating associations will be available to talk with you and explain the various levels of coverage available in additional to assisting you in completing enrollment/change forms.  Two open enrollment fairs have been scheduled from 5-7 p.m. at the Granite Education Center Administrative Services Building on Monday, October 6 and Thursday, October 9.

Free wellness screenings including free body fat measurements, free cholesterol screenings, free blood glucose screenings, etc. will be provided by SelectHealth and Regence at the open enrollment fairs.  Flu shots will not be given this year at the open enrollment fairs.

Great news for 2009!  There have been no changes made to the structure of the medical insurance program for the 2009 plan year. 

Changes to the benefits this year include:

• A switch from MetLife to Prudential for all Life and LTD products
• A new voluntary Vision plan offered by Opticare of Utah for contract employees and their families

Basic Life:

• Under the new Prudential Basic Life Plan the same coverage will continue as before

Long-Term Disability (LTD):

• Teachers not enrolled in the Voluntary LTD Plan may now enroll in the new Prudential LTD Plan with no medical questionnaire
• Those currently enrolled on the MetLife LTD Plan will be automatically moved to the new Prudential LTD Plan with no changes

Voluntary Supplemental Life:

• Guaranteed coverage now available up to $150,000 for all contract employees!
• Those currently enrolled in supplemental coverage will be automatically moved to the Prudential Plan (with the opportunity to increase coverage)
• Coverage amounts now available up to $500,000 (amounts over guaranteed coverage will be required to complete a short medical form)

Voluntary Vision:

• A new voluntary Vision Plan will be offered by Opticare of Utah for all contract employees
• Coverage includes frames, lenses and contact lenses
