ALTERNATIVE LANGUAGE PROGRAM
(A.L.P.)
Service Plan
The District’s Service Plan for Limted English Proficient Students with its 17 Terms of Agreement provides guidelines. The PLAN ensures that students are provided with an excellent and equitable education.
Each school in the District has an ALP Lead teacher who ensures that the 17 Terms of Agreement are followed. The ALP Lead teacher tests students for placement, ensures that there is complete documentation and works very closely with the school’s administration for full compliance.
IPT Testing
All potential ELL students are tested through the Idea Proficiency Test to determine appropriate placement.
ESL Services
Each school follows the PLAN very closely to ensure that the required number of English courses based on the students’ level of proficiency is provided. Interventions with support staff including ESL assistants help provide the needed services.
Staffing
English Language Learners have to be taught by teachers who are ESL endorsed, REACH trained and also received SHELTERED ENGLISH TRAINING.
Evaluations – AYP (School’s Adequate Yearly Progress) and AMAO – (Annual Measurable Achievement Objective)
The ALP program is evaluated through the students’ performance in the State’s Criterion Reference test (CRT) and AYP as well as the AMAO results.
