Granger Elementary School to celebrate milestones

Granger Elementary School, 2450 West 3800 South, will stage a double celebration on Tuesday, February 7. The current school year marks Granger’s 50th year and an appropriate birthday party is planned at 9:30 a.m. Later in the day, the school will celebrate another event that is a significant source of pride. In November, Principal Nancy Sorensen was informed that the school has been named a Title I Distinguished School by the National Association of State Title I Directors, a designation that went to just 50 schools nationwide. Dr. Sorensen received the award on January 28 at the association’s annual conference in Dallas.

Granger students have been keeping the number 50 at the forefront of their academic pursuits this year. Each grade level has targeted goal. For example fifth graders will know all 50 states and their capitals; each fourth grader will walk 50 miles. At 2 p.m. a number of special guests have been invited to celebrate both milestones with school officials, and yet another assembly, this one for parents, is planned at 5:30 p.m. For additional information, contact Dr. Sorensen at 964-7575.
