The sale of surplus property in South
Salt Lake
When the district purchased the GEC property on State Street
we indicated that the surplus properties would be sold and the funds used to
accelerate other capital projects throughout the district.
The district has worked closely with the City of South Salt
Lake and agreed that the best use would be to sell the land for single family
homes to help establish stability in the neighborhoods and to provide additional
students for the local schools.
The west 4.7 acres of the Lincoln Elementary playground was
sold in November 2005 and new homes are currently being built.
Approval on the other two properties has taken a little longer, but we
now have city support and the old district office site has been cleared and is
now ready to sell. The former
Woodrow Wilson site is currently being used as the temporary home of Granger
Elementary School while a new facility is being built

Granger High School
rebuild status and time line
Currently our district architectural
department is evaluating possible new school designs to best fit the available
property at the Granger High School site.
Over the past several years, the Board of Education
has set aside funds for the initial stages of planning and architectural design
for the new building.
Several more years of funding will be needed to
complete the entire project, but actual planning and is currently underway.
We are working with city and school officials to
evaluate the best educational facility designs and to coordinate redevelopment
efforts with the city.
It is
the intent of the Board of Education to keep
Granger students in school on the current site during the construction phase.
Granger High School has a limited amount of acreage
and some accommodations will be needed to facilitate student and staff parking,
sporting events, and other typical high school activities.
It will be vital for the students, teachers, and
community members to work together to minimize the inconveniences associated
with new construction.

Is the construction of Wasatch on schedule, and will school open at start of
2008-2009 school year?
The plan to open Wasatch Junior High is still on schedule. This construction
time table has been very tight however, and the snowy weather in January has
slowed construction progress.
Weekly meetings are being held to monitor construction. One goal of these
meetings is to rush construction along without jeopardizing quality and/or
safety.
