Are large districts good?
Yes, they can be. Economy of scale allows flexibility and ingenuity in designing and implementing programs. Large districts can often provide centralized educational opportunities, and access to them, that cannot be provided in any, or all of, the individual schools. Large districts can supply more specialized support services by hiring itinerant personnel such as nurses, psychologists/social workers, music/PE specialists who efficiently serve multiple schools. By virtue of large and more diverse demographic statistics, large districts can often better qualify for targeted funds and then leverage those funds to provide student or teacher support in schools throughout the district . However, large districts can appear impersonal and must work hard to communicate with and differentiate services for their diverse communities.
