Our iSchool at Kearns High (iKHS) Grant focuses on increasing student achievement with a one-to-one mobile technology learning environment. The mobility of these devices allows students to access information both inside and outside of school, while engaging in a 21st Century learning atmosphere.
Mobile devices in the hands of students enables them to participate in research, team projects, classroom activities, and academic coursework. Beyond the school campus, the devices will remain with students for homework, turning in assignments, independent learning, accessing textbooks, and problem solving. Students gain immediate academic benefits for school purposes and valuable 21st Century skills for their future lives and careers.
The iPod Touch devices are configured for filtered wireless Internet while at Kearns High School and will be installed with learning applications for every subject. Each iPod Touch will be checked out to students through the Media Center, and are due back at the end of the school year when textbooks are returned.
This has been a extraordinary opportunity for Kearns High School. No other high school in the state has been afforded this opportunity. Kearns High Principal, Ms. Maile Loo, says, "We will continue to use our iPods for interactive learning to continue to prepare our students for the 21st Century and academic achievement."
Kearns High School has six full-time classroom computer labs. Kearns is wirelessly networked and has an active and informative webpage for all community constituents.
Additionally, we are extremely fortunate to have a fully operational television studio where students learn television broadcasting and film-making skills.
