School background The Granite Technical Institute was conceived when the board of education and district administration decided to create a program that was flexible enough to respond to changing technology and industry demand. The program was started with a vision which included a high-tech, centralized facility with state-of-the-art equipment that provided:
- increased access to courses in industry-based, high-demand career pathways
- maximized lab experiences
- accessibility for all students
- model instruction through qualified teachers with industry experience
- industrypartnerships that supported curriculum alignment, work-based learning opportunities and student tutoring and mentoring.
Dubbed “G-Tech” by students, the GTI’s initial academic hub focuses on four high demand industry areas: engineering, health science technology, biotechnology/biomedical device, and informationtechnology. In addition, the G.T.I. provides courses in:
- Agriculture Science
- Aviation
- Barbering & Cosmetology
- Biotechnology
- Biomanufacturing
- Culinary Arts
- Construction Trades
- Health Science
- Information Technology
- Technology & Engineering
The institute’s technical education is aligned with academic courses, thus promoting real world application of academic theory. G.T.I. programs are aligned with colleges and universities. Students begin postsecondary coursework in high school leading to industry licensure/certification, A.A.S., A.S., and Bachelors degrees.
