Randy M. Johnson, Chief of Police

Chief Johnson has been a Utah Peace Officer since 1971, having worked for B.Y.U. Police Department, Provo City Police Department, West Valley Police Department, American Fork Police Department, West Jordan Department of Public Safety, Utah State Department of Public Safety and the Salt Lake Community College Department of Public Safety.
While Chief of Police in American Fork, Utah he supervised the investigation of the Lafferty Brothers double homicide. While at the Utah Department he held the rank of colonel. He supervised the State Bureau of Investigations, Bureau of Forensic Services (four crime labs), Bureau of Criminal Identification, Bureau of Communications (dispatching), Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and the Internal Affairs Section.
He graduated from B.Y.U. with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Master's Degree in Public Administration. He has been an instructor at POST since 1983 teaching Ethics and Professionalism. He has served as the Vice-Chairman of the POST Council and President of the Chiefs of Police Association.
Chief Johnson is married and a father and stepfather to seven children and grandfather to eleven.
