 ‭(Hidden)‬ June Institute

Special Education June Institute
June 7-11, 2010

Granite District’s Special Education Department is excited to host a full week of professional development presented by national and state experts. Invited participants include; Special Educators, General Educators (invited as partners of Special Educators in their schools), other related certified Service Providers, and Administrators. Classes are for certified staff members only. This is a one-time opportunity to learn from experts about the hottest topics and best current practice in special education. Classes are divided into 5 strands including:

Effective Instruction for Elementary (Gen Ed teachers
partner with Sp Ed colleagues in school)
Effective Instruction for Secondary (Gen Ed teachers
partner with Sp Ed colleagues in school)

Classes will be held daily from Monday, June 7th through Friday, June 11th. You must register for and attend classes in ONE STRAND only for the week (for example, if you take a class under the Behavior Strand on Monday you may not sign up for a class in the Autism Strand on Tuesday). This will allow for focused and more cohesive professional development around each topic area.

Strands are scheduled at various locations across the district. Daily schedule and time requirements for all strands are the same:

Morning sessions begin at 9:00 AM and end at 12:00 PM
Afternoon sessions begin at 1:00 PM and end at 4:00 PM

A stipend of $100 per day will be paid to participants who attend in full day increments (AM and PM session). For participants who attend classes in one strand the full 5 days and complete an “Action Plan Activity”, a $600.00 stipend will be paid. Half-day attendance does not qualify for a stipend.

Year round teachers who are in session during this week will need prior approval from their school principal to take professional development days, or to request off-track days to attend. Year round teachers who choose professional development days will not be eligible for the stipend. If you are using off-track time you will receive the stipend.

Substitutes will be paid if you are a self-contained teacher or general education teacher at a year round school and the school principal approves the days.

You may bring water and other snacks. Lunch will be on your own. Parking at some of the facilities will be limited so we encourage you to car pool when possible. Elementary attendees required to attend an Imagine It training session, on either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, will still be eligible to receive the extended $600 stipend if they attend the other 4 days of June Institute and provide proof of attendance from an Imagine It training. Proof of attendance must be submitted with your Action Plan Activity.
