Accounting

The primary purpose of the accounting department is to; 1) identify and record all activities that impact the district financially, and then 2) use that information to prepare standardized financial reports that provide information about the district to external parties.  State statute requires the financial activities of the district to be recorded in accordance with uniform Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).  To accomplish its purpose, the accounting department develops internal control procedures, records all inflow and outflow of financial resources, and assesses the value of the district’s various asset, liability, and fund balance accounts at the end of each fiscal year.  The accounting department produces yearly financial statements that have received “Certificates of Excellence in Financial Reporting” from both the Government Finance Officers Association as well as the Association of School Business Officials for many years running.  The work of the accounting department is audited annually by independent CPAs who are required to use procedures that meet or exceed Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
