Academy Park Elementary
Community Council Mid-Year Summary
2008-2009 School Year
*Funding was provided for an after-school tutoring program. This program was designed around a computer program called LEXIA. Our school was granted a one year trial period for use of the program. The students involved in this program attend on Tuesday and Thursday of each week. Attendance standards have been set to ensure the success of the program. Currently, 50 strategic students are being served by the program. Most of these students are 1st and 4th graders and are recommended for the program through their teacher.
*Funding was also provided for a Math Night, a Literacy Night and the Science Fair. These programs were held in the evening and the families of the students were invited to attend. These programs help promote involvement in our school by the parents and offer suggestions for ways to continue the learning process at home.
*Ongoing teacher training has also been a priority. The Council approved the funding of substitute teachers for professional development, grade level collaboration, and DIBELS training.
*Funding was provided for aides to assist with reading, math, and the at-risk program. These aides are able to work with students individually to ensure their success.
