Homework Policy SAFETY
BE SAFE AT SCHOOL! It's Granite District policy and it's the right
thing to do! The Granite School District has a School Safety
Policy that is designed to provide a safe, positive environment
where learning comes first. Safety is everyone's responsibility,
so if you know of a weapon at school, report it to a teacher,
an administrator, or to the Weapons Hotline at 481-7199. It is
your right to say NO to anything that would endanger you or someone
else. There are mandatory consequences for safe school infractions.
SCHOOL WIDE DISCIPLINE
Beehive has adopted STOP and GO as our school-wide disciplie program. Students
not following school or classroom procedures will be given a warning and an
opportunity to correct the problem. Students not correcting the problem will
be sent to STOP and THINK for 5 minutes. This time allows the student to reflect
on the situation and his/her behavior. If a student recieves 5 STOP and THINK
slips in one week, he/she will be assigned to Friday School.
Following two STOP and THINK opportunities, a student will be given a STOP and
GO. Students will spend 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the grade level, in a
designated location. If a student recieves more that one STOP and GO in a week,
he/she will be assigned to Friday School. During Friday School students are taught
social and life skills that will help them make better choices.
Students who violate Granite School District's Safe School Policy may either
be sent to Friday School or suspended from school depending on the seriousness
of the violation. Our goal is to keep all of our students safe and to have an
environment that allows students the opportunity to learn.
SCHOOL
DRESS CODE
Though
dress and hairstyles are personal matters, it is the position
of Granite School District that students be dressed in a clean,
modest, and appropriate manner at school. When dress or hairstyles
become so extreme as to be disruptive to the educational process
or beyond the bounds of good taste, appropriate action will
be taken on an individual basis.
The
following dress styles have been identified by the Salt
Lake Gang Task Force as gang related and will
not be allowed
to be worn at Beehive Elementary:
-
Excessively
baggy clothing
-
Belts worn
excessively long in the front and hanging on either side
-
Belt
buckles with Old English style writing
-
Baseball hat
or other cap with gang signals, monikers, or insignia
on it
-
Bandanas
or rags worn on a person or displayed
-
Pants with
one leg rolled up or shirts with one sleeve rolled
up
The
following numbers or words on clothing are deemed inappropriate,
have a double meaning, or are gang related and will
not be tolerated (i.e. letter X, numbers 05, 13, 14,
31, 41, 81, FUBU, & PLAYERS). This list will be updated
as trends change and new information is made available
through law enforcement.
BICYCLES, SCOOTERS, AND SKATEBOARDS
For your safety and for the safety of others, please follow
these guidelines:
-
Bicycles, scooters,
and skateboards may be ridden to school.
-
Bicycles, scooters, and skateboards
must be walked at all times on school grounds.
-
Bicycles are to be locked to the rack
in the secured fenced storage area.
-
Students may access the bike storage
area before school, after school,
or, if it is necessary,
during the day if checking out.
-
Helments may be stored in the classroom.
Failure to follow the above guidelines will
result in the loss of your bicycle, scooter, or skateboard
until a parent comes with you to pick it up. It may also
result in the loss of the privilege of bringing them to school.
Granite School District and Beehive Elementary are not responsible
for the loss or damage of these items when brought to school.
ELECTRONIC
DEVICES
Beehive Elementary prohibits
all use of communication devices during instructional time
regardless of whether the use is to send or receive messages.
Communication devices that are used in violation of school
rules will be confiscated and disciplinary action will be taken
for such violation. Confiscation may include a parent meeting
prior to the return of the device. Beehive Elementary and Granite
School District accept no responsibility for the loss of, or
damage to, any communication device.
GRANITE SCHOOL DISTRICT ATTENDANCE POLICY
According t the Utah Compulsory Attendance Laws (Utah Code 53 A-11-101-105),
parents and students are responsible for regular school attendance. Occasionally
a student must be absent from school for reasons which are acceptable to the
school and the courts, such as illness, medical appointments, family emergencies,
or the death of a family member or close friend. Please send a note to the
Attendance Tracker following an absence explaining the reason for your child's
absence.
Parents may excuse their child from school a maximum of seven days. After a child
has 5 unexcused absences from school a Truancy Letter will be sent to the parents
asking for their help with their child's attendance. After 10 days of unexcused
absences, the school will mail the student and parents a Habitual Truancy Notice/Pre-Court
Hearing.
A student must be in school four-sevenths of the day in order to be considered
in attendance. TARDINESS
Students arriving after school starts will need to check in with the Attendance
Tracker in the lunchroom. Their arrival time will be documented. When a student
arrives late for school those minutes are added up and turned into days missed.
Students who are habitually late will be assigned Friday School. During Friday
School students will be taught skills and strategies to help them be more
successful. STUDENT ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
"Granite School District DOES NOT provide for student supervision
on elementary playgrounds BEFORE and AFTER school. Therefore,
it is recommended that students arrive at school as close to
the beginning time as possible." Please plan with your children
so they do not arrive more that 5 to 10 minutes before the start
of the school day. If there is a problem, students should come
in the main door to the office; otherwise they are to enter and
exit through their hall doors. DROP OFF ZONE
Please do not drop off or pick up your children in the bus zone between the hours
of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
STUDENT CHECK-OUT
We encourage you to try to schedule your child's medical and dental
appointments so that they do not conflict with school hours.
If that is not possible, you must come to the office to check
your child out of school. FOR YOUR CHILD'S SAFETY, THE SCHOOL
WILL NOT RELEASE A CHILD TO ANYONE WHOSE NAME DOES NOT APPEAR
ON THE REGISTRATION CARD. YOU MAY BE ASKED TO SHOW PICTURE IDENTIFICATION.
OFF-TRACK STUDENTS
Students who are off-track may not be on school grounds during school hours or
during arrival and departure times (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) without a parent.
The policy is: OFF Track = OFF Campus.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS OR PHONE NUMBER
Please inform the office staff of any changes in your address or
phone numbers at home or work. If the parent cannot be reached
in the case of an emergency, the person listed as the "emergency
contract" on the registration card will be notified. IT IS IMPERATIVE
THAT THE SCHOOL HAVE CURRENT PONE NUMBERS FOR PARENTS.
TELEPHONE USE
Students may use the school phones if they have a phone pass from
their teacher. Teachers may give permission for students to use
the phone for purposes they feel are relevant to school. Students
will not be permitted to use the phone to make after-school arrangements
with friends, etc.
VISITING THE SCHOOL
We welcome visitors to our school. Granite School District policy
is established to ensure the safety of your child. Please be
advised that you are ALWAYS REQUIRED TO CHECK IN AT THE OFFICE
TO RECIEVE A GUEST PASS BEFORE ENTERING ANY OTHER SECTION OF
THE BUILDING. We do not permit pre-school or school-age visitors
in the classrooms because of liability. Parents or other adults
are welcom as classroom volunteers or visitors. Please schedule
these times with the classroom teacher. SCHOOL LUNCH
All students, except kindergarten, may participate in the school
lunch program. Beehive is on a lunch program called PCS. This
system uses keypads and Personal Identification Numbers to track
the lunch counts and money. Milk tickets are $0.25 and lunches
are $1.10 per day. An application for free or reduced lunch is
available at the office.
Lunch money for the entire week should be brought on the first
day of the week. If you bring lunch from home, you may purchase
milk tickets on the first school day of the week. If you are
absent on the day lunch money is collected by your teacher,
you can bring it in to the office before school and place it
in the secured lunch money.
MEDICATION
AT SCHOOL
Students
are not allowed to have any medication in their possession
at school except for inhalers. Cough drops and losenges
are considered medication. All medication must be brought
into the office along with a note from the doctor telling
school personnel when and how often it should be dispensed.
