High-quality Technology Centers
We have 35 computers in our lab and an average of three computers in every classroom. Each classroom is equipped with a big-screen TV, a computer, and internet access which allows teachers and students to use the internet to enhance teaching and learning.
Five lap top mini-computer labs in five classrooms. Four of these mini-labs have five or six lap tops, a digital video camera, and CD burner. One class has 13 laptops, digital video camera, CD burner, LCD projector, and scanner as a technology power user center.
Utah Heritage Garden Naturescape is housed on our school grounds with amphitheater. The concept was born in 1975 when Nellie Eckland, one of our teachers, began planting. In 1992, Coy Clawson, a teacher for the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind and a community member, became involved developing the Naturescape to its present level. It provides and outdoor classroom for students and is also a place where the community comes together to provide service and enjoy nature.
Panthers Acting With Service (P.A.W.S.) awards We promote service with this award. Children can earn points be doing a variety of things including learning about certain focus areas (arts, music, Presidents, etc.) or by performing acts of service ( raking leaves, making their beds, picking up trash, etc.). They receive an award if they earn their points. It is a way to reward positive behavior outside of academic achievement.
We have a Student Council with representatives from each class in the school. They decide on spirit day activities and ways to show school spirit. Students help conduct and introduce assemblies during the year.
We have a network of volunteers who participate in the "I Can Read" program. Last year, 16 community members came to the school at least twice a week to read individually with a child in need of extra practice. This has been a special program for six years.
The American Heart Association sponsors our Jump Team. The team practices most of the year to get ready to perform for assemblies held at other elementary schools in the area. They use this opportunity to educate children at these schools about the dangers of smoking/drugs to their health.
