Mondays we introduce spelling words and the story of the week. The homework for Monday is usually to write the spelling words three times, the sentences three times and reading 20-30 minutes everyday. SEP goals kept in motion also.

Tuesday the students write in their planners to reread the story of the week at home. Parents can reinforce the comprehension by asking questions to help the student connect with the story. They also can share this reading time with their child. A parent’s signature in the planner will verify that the student reread the story.

Wednesday and Thursday worksheets to review other concepts will be sent home. Homework sheets should be signed by the parent so the child may receive classroom payment for their work.

There is not any homework assigned on the weekend besides reading and math fact practice and SEP goals.

Parents help the child to keep track of time spent reading at home in the planner on the monthly calendar. At the end of each month a parent assists the child in adding up the minutes spent reading and sign the calendar. This is important so it is obvious that there is parental approval on the time spent reading. These calendars are recorded at school as part of their grade and also are used for the child to receive the highly coveted Reading Olympic Trophy. At the end of three months their reading time must total 20 hours or more reading time at home to accomplish this goal.

Thanks parents for your help and concern.
