What Students Can Do To Get Ready for CRT Testing

April 28 –May 23

This year students will be tested on line. Students should remember these timely tips when preparing for the CRT.

Come to school each day on time

Have confidence in yourself

Listen attentively when directions are given. Following directions will improve test scores.

Read each question carefully. Read again if necessary.

Do not spend too much time on any one question. Plan your time carefully in order to get through the entire test.

Answer every question. On difficult questions, eliminate the choices that are obviously wrong, then make an educated choice and move on to the easier question.

Choose answers carefully.

If you have time, review your answers and correct any careless mistakes. Do not change an answer unless you are sure it is wrong.

What Parents Can Do To Help Their Children during CRT Testing

Here are some simple things parents can do to help their children during CRT testing

Maintain a positive attitude. If you are optimistic and upbeat about the tests, your children will do better.

Be interested and involved. Find out from the teacher the specific dates when your children will be tested.

Do some planning for test days. Make sure your children are not absent on test days and that they sleep well the night before. Send them to school after a good breakfast, mentally ready to do their best.

Next Year’s Classes

A letter explaining the placement process will be sent home to all students grades K-5 on May 1st. If you have special concerns I will need your letter by Friday, May 9th. Please remember not to request a teacher by name. Input, for the most part, should be concerned with the type of learning environment that your child requires, i.e. tight or loose classroom structure, nurturing, demanding, etc. It is our sincere desire to give every student at Howard R. Driggs Elementary the best educational opportunity possible. We appreciate your input and cooperation in helping us achieve this goal. Class assignments will be listed on their 2007-2008 report card.

In May I will be composing next years class lists. Great effort is exercised to balance each class, because we feel it is important to secure the best possible educational opportunities for all of our students. We believe that differentiated instruction in heterogeneous classrooms is the best educational practice for serving the needs of our students. All placements will be made with the child’s best interest in mind. Many parents would like to select the teacher for their child; however, this is not possible due to the complexity of the process. In May, you will receive a letter asking for your input in this placement. Please understand that I am very willing to cooperate whenever I can; however, I can in no way GUARANTEE that your wishes will be granted. It is our sincere desire to give every student at Howard R. Driggs Elementary the best education opportunity possible.

Thanks for all you do,

Victoria Thomas
