When I came into the classroom on Thursday, I had a nice feeling that this would be a great day in my classroom, room 18. I was excited because today was a short day because of our three day weekend. When we got our chairs down and got everything out of our backpacks, we were informed that we did not have a cursive assignment which lightened everybody’s mood a little bit. Then we got even more great news from our wonderful teacher, Mrs. Miller, that we could take the time before reading class to silently read. When it was time for reading, everybody got all their books, and grabbed their instruments. (Except for some people that didn’t do band or orchestra.)
In Ms. Stott’s reading class, we started off our hour and forty five minutes with our daily language assignment. After we finished, everybody that did band or orchestra went to their music classes. In orchestra, the class played all the things that we are going to play in the concert. Our teacher also gave us a sheet of music that was the full version of Ode to Joy. We left music when it was over, and we all went back to reading class.
In reading class we finished with an assignment for FPS. (Future Problem Solving.) It was fun, yet hard.
Finally, it was time for our first recess. I jumped rope with Andy and Sam Robbins. I was trying to beat my record of 16 double spins in a row. Double spins are when the rope passes under you twice before you land. After I had just finished 12 double spins in a row, Dakota came up to me and declared that he had done 21 double spins in a row. I still haven’t been able to beat this new record, but I always will remember that I have the standing record for double spins with a beaded rope, because when Dakota broke my record, he was using an extremely good speed rope.
The bell rang and I lined up with everybody else, and went inside for math. Mrs. Miller’s math group didn’t have to do time tests because on short days we never do them. We went into Mrs. Hollingsworth’s classroom to do an Acuity test, a YPP test, and then we could go onto Mrs. Miller’s website and do any math games we wanted to. It was an extremely fun math time, and we all went back to our home rooms to go to lunch.
At lunch, I had some chicken salad, some Cheetos, and some grapes. Then I went out to recess and tried in vain to beat Dakota’s new record. When the bell rang, I followed everybody inside, gloomily.
We all got our stuff ready to go home, and when the bell rang, everybody charged out of the doors like a huge stampede of every kind of animal you can possibly think of. What another wild day in Mrs. Miller’s fifth grade class.
