What
Good Readers Do
Good readers are "strategic" readers. A good reader interacts
with the story he is reading. He predicts what will happen, questions
and wonders why events are happening, summarizes the events in the
story, and clarifies parts of the story which don't make sense.
When a good reader comes to a word he doesn't know, he has many
strategies he can use to figure out the unknown word.

Current
Unit of Study
The third theme is called Our Corner of the Universe.
We will read stories to learn how individuals make changes by working
together. This unit provides students the opportunity think and
answer these questions. What is the universe? What makes it up?
Are we the only life forms in the universe? What do we know about
our neigboring galaxies? Our neighboring planets? Our sun? Our moon?
Why is it important to look beyond our world?
