Math benchmarks are certain concepts that need to be mastered at
each grade level. Once a student has mastered his/her specific benchmarks,
then he/she is ready for success at the next grade level. Please
read the following benchmarks that pertain to your children and
help them obtain their grade level benchmarks. |
Kindergarten
1.Knowledge
of Numbers: Recognize numbers 1-10 / Count numbers
to 20 / Write number to 10 / Understand the concept equal and
not equal
2. Shapes: Recognize
the following shapes: Circle, square, rectangle, and triangle
3. Money: Count
pennies to 10
4. Measurement: Know
concepts: short, long, tall, short, big, and little
1st
Grade
1. Patterning: Child
should be able to recognize, copy, and make new patterns.
2. Knowledge of Numbers:
• Model and label numbers using one to one correspondence
• Identify groups of zero to ten objects
• Understand and demonstrate knowledge of greater than and
less than up to number ten
• Understand concepts 1st, 2nd, 3rd, up to 10th
• Write numbers to 20
• Count by 5's and 10's to 100
• Understand odd or even.
3. Addition: Using
manipulatives, model and write addition sentences for sums to
six
4. Subtraction:
Using manipulatives, model and write subtraction sentences for
differences from six
5. Money: Knowledge
of pennies and demonstrate counting of pennies to 30. Recognize
coins (nickels, dimes, and quarters)
6. Time:
• Knowledge of numbers on a clock and function of both hands
• Demonstrate telling time to the hour
7. Calendar: Knowledge
of the days of the week and months
8. Fractions: Recognize
1/2, 1/4, and 1/3

Grade
1.
Addition: Master
basic addition facts (1-5) with daily timed tests / Show addition
facts using manipulatives and number lines
2. Subtraction: Master
basic subtraction facts (1-5) with daily timed tests / Show subtraction
facts using manipulatives and number lines
3. Fact Families: The
children should have the ability to recognize and make fact families
with addition and subtraction
4. Place Value: Children
should be able to understand place value to 10 and demonstrate
an understanding. They should be able to count to 100 and say
the numbers
5. Skip Count: Children
should be able to count by 2, 5, and 10.
6. Money: Children
should be able to identify the coins by name and value (1 cent-penny,
5 cents-nickel, 10 cents-dime) and add them together.
7. Time: Children
should be able to tell time to the hour / Children should be able
to identify the job of the hands on a clock

Grade
1.
Addition: Basic
addition facts with daily timed tests 1-9. They should have the
ability to carry one and two digit numbers and understand why
through hands on practice with manipulatives and number lines.
2. Subtraction: Basic
subtraction facts with daily timed tests 1-9. The ability to borrow
two digit numbers and understand why we borrow through hands on
practice with manipulatives and a number line.
3. Fact Familes: Recognize
and make fact families with addition and subtraction.
4. Problem Solving: Know
which opertion to use when solving a story problem. Solve one
step story problems with addition and subtraction. Write a simple
story problem.
5. Place Value: Understand
place value to 1,000 and demonstrate an understanding. Know how
to say the numbers.
6. Vocabulary: Be
familiar with vocabulary for all operations: eg. sum, differences,
and product.
