Arrival/Departure
Granite School District does not provide
supervision on elementary school playgrounds before and after
school, so it is recommended students arrive at school as close
to 8:35 AM as possible. When the bell rings at the end of the
day, students should leave the building as quickly as possible.
If it is necessary for a student to stay after school, parents
will be notified. (Remember: the tardy bell rings at 8:40
AM)

Attendance
Punctual and regular attendance is very
important to school success. If your child will be absent, please
call the office (646-4816) on the morning of your child's absence
between 8:15 AM and 9:15 AM. PTA volunteers will call parents
of absent students to verify the absence. When your child returns
to school, please send a note signed by a parent explaining the
absence.

Tardiness
Being
on time for school is a positive way to start the day. If a student
is late, they are to report to the office to pick up their absentee
card. Three tardies are equivalent to one absence.

Conferences
Communication is an essential part of
the education program. It is very important for parents to keep
in close contact with their child's teacher concerning student
progress. If you need to talk to your child's teacher, call the
office to arrange a conference time that is convenient for all.
Reports about the students progress will be formally held three
times this year in an SEP conference.

Dress
We support the position that parents should
oversee their children's dress so it is modest, clean, neat and
appropriate for the weather conditions. Clothing should also provide
protection for the student as he/she engages in the varied activities
during the school day. Shorts that are moderate in length and
modest are acceptable.
Clothing
not permitted includes: short shorts, cut-off jeans, tank tops,
halters, crop tops, belly shirts, and T-shirts with inappropriate
language. As matter of courtesy and to allow teachers to maintain
clear eye contact, hats are not to be worn in the school building.
Students choosing to wear hats will have them impounded and will
be returned only to the parent upon request.

Homework
Homework is an extension or enhancement
of the school day. It usually occurs when a
student needs practice to achieve mastery or when an assignment
has not been completed during class time. It may also be a supplement
to the educational activities currently being taught in the classroom
such as reports, research activities, logs, etc. Assignments have
the potential to receive full credit if turned in on time. In
an effort to enable timely work completion and build good life
skills, late work will be accepted at 50% one day late. Some assignments
with low scores may be returned to your student for re-working.
These assignments are due the following day and have the potential
of receiving 80% if received on time.

Make-Up
Assignments
If
a student is absent and misses tests or work assignments, he/she
should check with the teacher(s) upon return (work will not be
given prior to absence) to determine when the work can be made
up and tests re-given. It is the student's responsibiltiy
to initiate and follow through on make-up work. All missing
work must be turned in one week from the day returning from the
absence. An "M" on the grades report will indicate your
student was absent and did not get the work missed in on time.

Problems
arise each year because students bring items that are hazardous
to the safety of others or interfere in some way with school procedures.
Only items needed for classroom use should be brought to school.

Lost
and Found/Identification
Articles that are found should be turned
into the office or taken to the "Lost and Found Box".
Students who lose items can check this area for missing articles
and if found, claim them at the office. Students' coats, boots,
gloves, lunch boxes, back packs, etc., should be marked for easy
identification, this will aid in returning articles.
