I got new info - Next fall, our start time will be 9:05 and our end time will be 3:45. Good news for all you non-morning people and not so good news for all of you who like to get home early.

Now that the decision has been made by the Board to move us to traditional, we'll have lots of questions and "stuff" to discuss. I've begun a page for this. It is "Traditional - Draft." I'll put the things we know on there - like the traditional schedule. I'll put the items we need to address, and as we get them, I'll put the answers to those items.
How will we proceed? Most items are up for discussion and feedback. You'll make recommendations and I'll make the final decision based on the needs of the children (1st), then the needs of the staff (2nd) and rarely, the grumblings that can seem so loud sometimes. I really want us to use these changes as a way to bring us together. When we come up with problems, let's supply possible solutions. Let's consider all the options openly and with compassion for the impact they have on each and everyone of us.
We will discuss these items in each of our Committee Meetings. Make sure your grade has a voice. Each group will discuss the items that are under their jurisdiction. Tentative decision will probably be made at each meeting. These decisions will need ratification. I will be the tie breaker when needed.

The SEP forms for 1st through 6th grades can be found in an email sent on Sept. 27th. Unfortunately, I can't put them on our website. They just won't work. I'll send the email out again.

A quick reminder on school fees: NO fees may be charged in connection with any class, program, or activity that occurs during the regular school day in grades K-6.
We can ask for donations, HOWEVER, we must do the activity for which we were collecting for all children or not at all. No child may be excluded because of ability to pay. We don't keep track of who has paid and who has not. Those who make significant donations may be recognized.

Volunteer Info:
All volunteers must be within line of sight when working with students. Don't have volunteers take students into the hall or other places you cannot see. We appreciate our volunteers. We also want our students to be safe. Since our volunteers have not had background checks, prevention is the key. When using parents/volunteers on a fieldtrip, keep them in line of sight, or put them in pairs and ask the pair to keep each other in line of sight for their own protection. Be especially cautious with restrooms.
Field Trip Info:
You'll want to know that busses remain at $40/hr with a 2 hour minimum. Work with Jody so that requests for buses go in early. A minimum of 2 weeks is required to prevent extra charges. Transportation will no longer make trips to the "Spiral Jetty" as there is too much dirt road on that run.
Although the District doesn't allocate the full amount, we authorize each grade level 4 hours of buses time for 2 buses. This allows grade levels to take all children on all tracks on field trips. Work together as teams to make this happen. The larger busses hold 83, so if you have larger groups, make sure you request a bus that hold that many (including the adults.) If you don't and have extra students, you'll get billed for a second bus to hold the extras.

Welcome to our first contract day of the 2011-12 school year! Let's welcome our new staff members and make them feel loved and welcomed. They are: Debbie Wessman, 1st Grade; Charles Bell, 3rd Grade and Carol Ferguson, 5th Grade. We're delighted to have them join us.
On a sad note, Stephanie Colvin has left us. Downsizing in her husband's company has force them to move to Oklahoma to live. We'll miss her and she misses us.
Remember, after the CC Training and Faculty Meeting, you still have 2 contract days to fulfil in order to get ready. Make sure you take care of it this week and last. (Yea, as if we can get ready in two days. You devoted people put in sooooo much time and effort.)
Don't forget to check the calendar boards in the Faculty Room Hall. There will be a sign-in sheet each day for you to initial.

We are starting a new year and will start a new bulletin. Welcome back to school on Monday, July 18th for our Common Core Curriculum training for all tracks. It will be at Granger Elementary from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Lunch will be provided.
Tuesday, July 19 will be our Faculty Meeting for all tracks. Teachers in their first 2 years at this building come at 8:00-9:00. All teachers come from 9:00 to 12:00. We look forward to seeing you. Lunch will be provided. A, B & C tracks will work in their rooms in the afternoon.
The carpet cleaners started cleaning today. The last of the carpets will be finished up on Monday, July 18. You can work in the building, but will not be able to set up your room (can't move anything on to the carpet) until the carpet is dry which takes 36-48 hours. Bulletin boards, curriculum, planning, etc. can be done now.
See you later.
