First grade is an exciting year. Reading skills are our main focus. We are very lucky to have Mrs. Child's as a reading specialist. She provides instruction and support for many students in our grade level. We are encouraging all students to read for at least 20 minutes a day at home.

Our Social Studies curriculum includes community relationships, family and sense of self. Our study of the environment is exciting as we learn about states of water (ice, liquid, and gas) as it relates to the water cyle and weather. We also learn about plants and seeds.

We will learn to identify continents as we learn about maps and map symbols. Our Interconnections focus will be on the continent of Australia.

We need your help!!! We love having parent volunteers in our classrooms. Please be creative and think of any small thing you can do to help at home or at school. Your child's teacher can set up a schedule for you to come daily, weekly or whenever you can come.
