I am excited that our theme for this year is "Leaping Into Learning". My career in education has lasted for 39 years and I still learn many new things. I did not have the opportunity to obtain my Masters' Degree until 30 years after I had graduated from college. My children and grandchildren came to my graduation. Finally, 4 years ago, I went to school to become an administrator and have been lucky enough to be at three fine schools: Granger Elementary, Stansbury Elementary and now, best of all, Oquirrh Hills! Always remember that we can each learn something new every day. Have a wonderful year!

Ms. Schowe

I am the Language Arts resource teacher at Oquirrh Hills. Our school has a "push-in" model for special education where the resource teacher teaches small groups of students in each grade level, in the general education classroom. For each 45 minute session, students participate in word study, reading fluency, reading comprehension, language and writing. We also practice social skills and study skills as we work in small groups of 4 to 6 students.

This is my 28th year in Granite School District. I started as a district coordinator of special services for children and adults with disabilities in the Community Schools and Adult Education Department, now called Granite Peaks. I left for four years to serve as the Executive Director of Utah Special Olympics. When I returned to Granite District I taught resource for 3 years and a behavior self-contained unit for 9 years. This is my 6th year at Oquirrh Hills, and I love it! I enjoy teaching all grade levels. One of my favorite projects is the Community of Caring Service Learning Team, a group of Sixth Grade students who provide service to our school, individual students and teachers, and the community. Some of our projects this year will be planting trees on the playground thanks to a generous donation from Smiths. We will also have a canned food drive in November to stock our local food bank, and a warm coat, mitten and scarf drive in December to provide extra support for the downtown shelters. We also will be working on the rose garden in front of our school.

My hobbies are hiking, long distance walking, traveling, photography, gardening and cooking. I love hot, spicy food! I am very excited about this school year and teaching great kids.
