Parents,
I am delighted to teach your third grade student this year. I wanted to share with you some of my philosophies about the prupose of education and my role in your student's education.
I believe education is essential for preparing students to become contributing citizens in our community. Education opens doors for our students to pass through to opportunities.
This year of opportunity and promise, I want to present your student with an education that promotes their success in academic and social endeavors. I will teach math, language arts, science, social studies, performing arts, and technology in accordance with the Utah State Core Curriculum. As I teach these subjects within the content area, I want to present hands-on activities and real life learning oportunities including field trips and walkabout journeys. Education and learning needs to be engaging and active not passive. Our lively classroom will be involved with meaningful activities.
Education includes acquistion of life skills. I strongly believe that a student's future success in adult life depends on learning life skills as well as academics. Each student learns vital social skills by intracting within the classroom community. I will emphasize a learning environment in my classroom that fosters a community of caring and cooperative learners.
One of my roles as a teacher will be to facilitate student learning. Each day I will orchestrate learning activities and lessons that coincide with my goals and my students' goals and needs. Primarily, my student-centered activities will be hands-on and cooperative. Again, I emphasize my belief that students learn by doing. I want them to gain confidence in their academic and social abilities for future successes in education and life. As their teacher, I want my students to love learning and be simply passionate about increasing their learning. My goal is to promote a classroom of life-long learners.
Another vital role of my being a teacher will be to create a safe environment for my students. They need to feel a sense of secruity when they participate in my class. I will foster the value of each student and his or her contribution to the classroom by the manner in which I treat them and their contribution. My relationship with my students will be one of mutual respect. I will demonstrate deep caring as I communicate with them. Since I value my relationship with each student, I will celebrate the uniqueness of the individual student. I will foster caring and respectful relationships among the students by developing a sense of community. One way I will develop community is by arranging the desks in table groups so students may associate as a team in a variety of circumstances. Building community will be my foremost goal in creating the climate of our classroom.
Parents, I consider you a partner in educating your student. Home activities such as reading, creating the discovery quests, and visiting the library will greatly increase the success of your student. Feel free to visit our classroom at any time. I would welcome volunteers to participate in a variety of activities including field trips and activities within the classroom. I am excited to share this school year with you and your student.
