-Only a few more hours to go! Have a happy summer!

***Field day is coming up next week and there is a nasty little rumor going around that you only have to take your class out and turn them over to the PTA. Please know that YOU DO NEED TO STAY WITH YOUR CLASS while they are doing the activities. There will be a volunteer to lead the activity, but you need to supervise your class.
If you do need a little time to work in your classroom, one teacher can watch the students during the movie, Tuesday, while the others work. You will need to rotate so each teacher has a little time to get some work done.
Have a happy Friday & weekend!!!
Thursday, June 25, 2009
-A lot of you are taking walking field trips and having outside activities. We have spent a lot time looking for classes who are not on school grounds. Becky is requiring all of you to report to the office any time you leave the school grounds or have an outside activity as soon as the activity is planned. We will put it on the calendar to let everyone know where you are.
Also, if you have outside activities planned, please take your grade-level walkie out with you and make sure you have it on. Parents call frequently to pull their students out early, especially this time of year and we spend a terrific amount of time looking for classes.
-Please be sure the grade level cameras are turned in to Vicki before going off track.

Please remind your students it is not O.K. to have their cell phones out during the school day. Some of the students are pulling them out & taunting Mr. Cervantes saying they can have them out. He is trying to follow school rules by telling the students to use the office phone to contact parents.

-When your class makes their coaster out of the clay, just dry them and send them home with the students. We will not be firing them in the kiln, there are too many here at the end of year to do, unless you know how to do it. Make sure they don't get wet however.

**A Track teachers - we just found out there is a discrepancy on early out day this week. It is tomorrow, June 3, 2009. We have 2 calendars with 2 different dates on them, Becky called to verify tomorrow is the correct date. Sorry for the confusion! Please let your students know! This also means the movie will be changed back to Thursday.
- I need everyone to look at their new teacher editions. You were shown at training how to tell if they are 1st editions. If they are, tear out the 1st page and give it to Vicki ASAP. I have to have them sent in by next week if we want them replaced. I have already done this for 5th & 6th grades as I inventoried, however I didn't know about it when I did all the others.
-A track check out lists are in your boxes.

Thank you all for thinking of us in the office today. The muffins, juice, popcorn, flowers, goodie bag, sweet (funny) e-mail, and fruit bouquet are all so wonderful & thoughtful. Thank you! It is nice to work with such great & caring people!
We are having several issues with students spending their school time (including lunch & recesses) discussing relationships & giving affection. Please discuss with your students that school time is not the time to set up relationships, hold hands, hug, play kissing tag, or play chase & kiss, Kyhfooty is to be used always! It doesn't matter the gender. Hugs and other affection are not to be given at school. Note passing, love notes, sending students to check & see how another thinks of you again are not school time activities. These are covered under Kyhfooty & positive communication rules.
Becky will do an announcement about this on Friday morning, but please cover this with your students tomorrow.
Have a good day!
Monday, April 20th
Just a quick note to let you know that Secretary's Appreciation Day is this Wednesday, on April 22nd. I know I'm looking forward to sharing my appreciative thoughts with our terrific team of office management. -Becky

Please make sure they are where you won't need to move them again until we have them ready (end of year). Again, please try to control your excitement by not opening the boxes!
-AB teachers - the CRT meeting with Don will be next Monday after school.
-When the Lifetouch picture packets come back, please do not collect any money. Send the students to the office with their packets & order forms. There is information sent out by the photographer asking the teachers to collect them. However, this is against District policy.

*** No faculty meeting tomorrow
2 weeks ago I asked each grade to decide which room they wanted the new text books stored in until the end of the year. I only had 3rd grade respond. Yeah, 3rd grade!!!!
If I don't know where you want the books when they come, I will have to choose a room, and it may not be where you want them.
As a reminder, the cases will be there until the end of the school year. They must remain in the same classroom and will not be moved until summer. DO NOT OPEN the boxes until we have a chance to inventory them. We will try to get to them as soon as we can, but know it will take some time. We will need to trade some whole sets and if you open them, stamp them or anything else, we will not be allowed to do what we need to with the books.
Tuesday, April 14, 2009
The Mill Hollow Presentation has been re-scheduled for tomorrow @ 2:00. We will call you down. Thank you and have a great day!

If you are unable to attend at 1:30, Don will be doing another training later in the day for sweepers and anyone else. After the system is up and running EVERYONE needs to turn in their hex keys to Vicki. You will no longer need them & we can be fined if any door is propped or left open.
Monday, March 30, 2009
***Another correction! There is collaboration this week. So sorry for the confusion!
***Change of time for tomorrow's assembly for CD tracks. We will call you down around 9:45 a.m. instead of 9:30.
We will be receiving the Imagine It books soon. We will need to put the boxes of books into a classroom for each grade level. Talk as a grade level and decide which classroom the books will be put into. They will be there through the rest of this school year. Let Vicki know which room they will go into.
When they come, please DO NOT open the boxes! They need to be inventoried first and that won't happen for a little while. We know you are anxious for them, but please do not open them.
Every teacher will need to attend training the week of May 18 - 28. Each grade will have a specific day that week. We will get substitutes for you. If you are off track, you still need to attend the training and you will receive a $100 stipend. If, for some reason you are not able to attend your scheduled day, there is a make-up day scheduled the week of June 15 - June 18 (each grade on a specific day that week).
Watch for further information and schedule will be put in your boxes.

-I also put a message out a few weeks ago (Jan. 28) asking about your Emergency Procedures Manuals. I only had 5 teachers respond. -Also, there have been parents slipping in the end doors at the end of the day to pick up their children. As an added security measure to protect our students, all outside doors should be locked during the day except the front doors. Parents are to wait for their students in the front foyer waiting area if they feel it necessary to come in to pick up their child.

Some of you have been asking about the Imagine It reading series and when we'll get the books so that you can begin to prepare for next year (and some are thinking they're crazy.) I don't know. However, Colette found a terrific site that gives you fantastic teacher-use-it information. It is http://opencourtresources.com/ You'll want to check it out. I've put it on the Resources Page so you'll have it available.

Bathroom Issues! - We've had some problems over time with students in the lower grade restroom at lunch. Our lunch aides can't always be there and some "unfriendly" behavior has happened. So, using another school's model, we're going to have a student monitor posted at the restroom during lunch time. The student will have the same authority as a Safety Patrol member, plus a walkie-talkie. This monitor will start Monday. Shelly's class is lunch serving and is going to pilot the idea for us.
Hi – just a quick reminder.
Faculty Meeting is for all certified staff that works here at Orchard EVEN IF OFF-TRACK. However, if you are off-track, you may be excuse, but you’re still responsible to get all the Faculty Meeting information. We’ll try and get the info in your box, but sometimes life happens. Check with your team, see Becky, look in the clear box next to Becky’s door for extra copies – just get the info.
I’ll excuse you from the meeting, BUT NOT from getting the info. ;-)
Becky
If you can't make the Teacher Manual your home page on the web, you may want to create a shortcut on your desktop.
Step 1: Go to the web page you want. In this case, you're here!
Step 2: Look at the address bar. After the word address and just before the http... is an explorer icon. Click on that icon and drag it to your desk top. (You may need to make the web window smaller so that you can see the desktop.) Vwala! You're done.

Teachers,
Sorry about the SLCC Assembly, they thought that the athletes had left when I called. They will let me know what happened and I will let you know.
We have an opportunity to use our reading minutes from Jan. 24 to Feb. 23 for two challenges. First, the Road to Success that we have been doing all year. Second, the "Be a Team Player -- READ!" challenge sponsored by Scholastic Bookfairs and the Utah Jazz. We will have weekly forms for the students to fill in during these weeks and we need to report the minutes to the Scholastic people each week. Therefore we will need to be more consistent on our reporting, but we can also help the students get more rewards for their reading.
Thanks for your help and support as we have worked on these reading challenges this year.
-As of this morning, we have read 825, 150 minutes. Yeah!
-We are having a winter gathering (Pre-Super Bowl party) for all staff & guests on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at Becky's house, pot-luck. Sign-up for food category is in the faculty room. There will be an e-mail with address & other details. See you there!
-We would still like reading stories, see Tuesday's notes.
-No Greater Heroes Assembly 9:45 - 10:45. This is for everyone.
-There has been an issue with the copy machines. There are work orders in on the two Sharp machines (regular copiers), the new Riso just needed ink, and the old Riso had a master jam due to the masters not getting emptied and it is fixed as well.
Please make sure you are emptying the master drawer when you are finished. When the masters pile up in the drawer, it causes other problems with the machine. If you are doing a lot of copying, periodically empty the drawer. If any machine jams & you try to clear it, please make sure the entire piece of paper comes out, otherwise, come get someone in the office to clear it.
Do not take the machines apart for any reason. Let someone in the office know when there is a problem with the machines. If we don't know, we can't get it fixed. Make sure parents know what to do also. With a little care, the machines will last longer.

December 11, 2008
Next week we have just a few things going on we want to make sure everyone is on the same page. These assemblies are for everyone.
1) There are no aides here next week or collaboration. Also, no committee meetings.
2) Wednesday is the Sing Around at 2:30 p.m. The sign up is on the faculty room door.
3) Thursday the Senior Granite Youth Symphony will be performing here at 8:50 a.m. This is a reward assembly. We are very lucky to get them, only 7 schools were able to schedule them this year.
4) Friday is our band/orchestra concert at 10:00 a.m.
5) There will be no school-wide movie this year due to the other assemblies we are having. Feel free to arrange something on your grade level (etc.) Make sure it is G rated, if you do.
6) We have added a link to the Resource Page for Acuity, both at school and at home (Teachers only). You many now use Acuity for all of your Math Benchmark tests. Another piece of good news is that the constructed response questions (19 & 20) have been eliminated!
We hope you are having a great day!
November 17, 2008
There is information of the bulletin board about the Adopt-A-Driver Program with C.R. England. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about geography
November 10, 2008
Please DO NOT TOUCH any of the computer equipment on the stage stairs. It has all been inventoried and ready to surplus.
While you are off track the technology crew will be re-imaging your computers and putting your personal stuff on your H drive. It may be a good idea to clean out your personal stuff before that.
Please remember to have your students put their chairs on the desks and pick up debris off the floor at the end of the day.
October 31, 2008
An automatic shut down switch has been installed on everyone's computers. All computers will shut down at 5:00 p.m. If you are still here at that time and working on a document, make sure you save your work or you may/will lose it. If you do bring your computer back up, make sure you shut it down before you leave.
October 29, 2008
Piano tuning will take place on Thursday, October 30, beginning around 11 AM. Please put the pianos for your grade out in the hall before 11 AM. You may need to go into the off track room to get the piano and bring it out. Thanks.
October 28, 2008
Some of you are having problems with your projector not working after the power bump we had last night. If you are having a problem, try unplugging your projector for about 5 minutes, plug it back in and hit the reset button. If you still have problems, please let us know in the office.
Have a great day!
September 30, 2008
We have heard some concerns about the computer labs.
First: Network and power cords being unplugged. Please watch your students so they don’t unplug cords as they move to and from their computers. We have had the floor connections moved out of the walkways, but there is still the possibility of knocking them out as they sit at the computer or as they line up to arrive or leave the lab.
Second: Long log in time. Apparently, the network needs to configure the workstation for each student. Hence, the first time the student logs into that workstation (machine) the log in takes a while. If you move the student to another workstation, the log in starts all over again. Once a student has had a workstation configured for them, the log in is very rapid. Please take the time to let them log into a specific workstation then when you return to the lab, have them use the same workstation. This will help you conserve your time in the lab for computer work and not log in time. It also means you'll want to have something to cover the wait time whenever you change labs or computers.
Please e-mail Don (dgchristensen@graniteschools.org) your reading minutes for this week, also post them on the chart in the hall. It will really help the students to see how rapidly the minutes add up. Don’t forget to hand out the bicycle tickets for every 100 minutes read.

Our Faculty Room is needing some (lots) of tender loving care. Since it hasn't been done yet this year, all the grades that have been scheduled to clean will work on it together. We'll be doing it tonight after school. See all of you K, 1, 2 & 3 teachers after school.
August 5, 2008
It looks like the honeymoon is over, but you are hanging in there and doing great things for kids. I'll be out on Wednesday with some of our newer teachers as we work on class management and prevention. Don will be here with you. I'll see you at SEP conferences.
Hold the conferences just outside of the door to your classroom (or just inside if you need the confidentiality). Set up a desk or table, make it look nice and enjoy the visits. This is the conference where you share what you do in your class (if the parent didn't come to Back to School Night) and ask the parent what they can share with you that will help you be an effective teacher for their child. You get the chance to listen. Don't try to give levels or data this time. If you see that behavior could be a concern, begin working on that aspect. Overall, just relax and enjoy the conferences.
July 31, 2008
Additions: 1) No Collaboration next week. We'll need another week to get our aides up and running.
2) The Reading Team (teacher, aides & Reading Specialist) will be doing the Benchmark Dibels testing after all. (Something to do with valid results and reliability across the school). Sign-ups for times are on the door in the office.
3) The aides will not begin helping with math for another week. We want to work things out just a bit more. (And get the Dibels testing done). We're also getting feedback that you may need more direction on how to make this work. (I think I need to study it more thoroughly, too.)
Today, we have a 3-5 minute meeting at 1:30 in the Faculty Room. See you there.
I thought I ought to have my head examined for saying I'd take 500 students by myself. I did remember very quickly why I don't teach 1st Grade (bless those that do), however, I was so pleased with the group. For the circumstances, they did a superb job. I hope that you are completely planned and will able to leave at 1:35ish.
Have a great weekend!
July 30, 2008
Best wishes at Back To School Night. Be sure to take roll so you know who does not need to come to SEPs (unless they want to) and who you've given the info to. Pass out the Power Standards. They'll be in your boxes. Put out a Volunteer Sign-Up and be sure to ask for Room Reps., and home and class volunteers.
Friday, Aug. 1, we'll be having a movie at about 9:15 am, so that you can do your planning. You'll be excused to go home on Friday at 1:35 PM in exchange for the time you spent at Back to School Night. You'll need to stay with your students until after the movie starts, then you may leave.
Friday, Aug. 1, I'll need to meet with you for 3-5 minutes at 1:30 in the Faculty Room. See you there. Becky
July 29, 2008
We've had alot happen in the past 2 weeks. You have worked hard and it shows. I am so proud of you. It is obvious that you have the students' best interest at heart. Thank you for that.
There is a signup on the back of the office door. Pick a slot that works for you (but doesn't go during small group time) when you can bring your students for 1/2 hour of training in Cafeteria, Office, Restrooms and Playground. You'll start at the time you sign up by bringing your class to the area in front of the office. The whole training will take 1/2 hour. See you then.
Those in the 1st 2 years @ Orchard, I'd like to meet with you after school on Wednesday for 20 minutes. See you in the Media Center at 3:30 PM. Becky
July 15, 2008
Hello everyone! It's time to plan on coming back to work. We even had an extra week this year because of the calendar, but it doesn't feel like it.
Here's the time-line for A, B & C tracks (D track joins in on Monday and Tuesday, July 21 & 22):
Wednesday, July 16th - You are welcome to come and work in your rooms. This is NOT a contract day
Thursday, July 17th - Another day you may work on your own. This is NOT a contract day.
Friday, July 18th - Our 1st contract day! (or you may trade this contract day and work on Friday, July 25th - but you must work one of these two days.) This is a day to work on your room and your general preparation. It's an 8 hour work day. Plan on starting by 8:00 AM and finishing by 5:00 PM. (Tracks A, B & C)
Monday, July 21st - Contract day - (Professional Learning determined by Admin.) We'll meet at Renee Roner's house at 8:00 AM and be in meetings until 4:00 PM. Lunch will be provided. Renee lives at 5365 Serena Circle, which is about 3700. Here's the driving instructions from Orchard. You'll want to come to 5200 West from either 3500 or 4100 South. (Tracks A, B, C & D)
Tuesday, July 22nd - Contract day - (1/2 day of Professional Learning determined by Admin, and 1/2 day Faculty Meeting.) Again, we'll meet at Renee Roner's house at 8:00 AM. At 11:30, you will be dismissed for lunch. You are on your own to provide lunch, but need to make it a working lunch. I suggest you join your grade level team at one of the fun eating joints over on 3500 S. and 5600 West. Talk about your plans. At 12:30, we'll be meeting in the Computer Lab at Orchard for our Faculty Meeting which will go until 4:00 PM. The building will be open until 5:30 if you feel the desire to stick around after Faculty Meeting. (Tracks A, B, C & D)
Wednesday, July 23rd - Contract Day - Work on Preparation in the building. It's an 8 hour work day. Plan on starting by 8:00 AM and finishing by 5:00 PM. (Tracks A, B & C)
Thurday, July 24th - Pioneer Day - Don't come to the school or even worry about school. Enjoy
Friday, July 25th - Contract Day, IF you did not come on the previous Friday. It's an 8 hour work day. Plan on starting by 8:00 AM and finishing by 5:00 PM. The building will be open during the day for those who want some extra time. (Tracks A, B & C)
Monday, July 28th, - Contract Day - Students arrive for school. (Tracks A, B & C)
April 7, 2008
The next training will April 30th (Wed.) @ 3:30 PM. Required if you didn't attend today.
April 2, 2008
Finally --- With all the changes in computers and email, I lost this website for a while.
The training with Troxell on the mics and projectors will be coming up. We'll be having 2 sessions of the same thing. You need to attend ONE of those sessions. You'll also receive a $20 stipend! The 1st session will be Monday, April 7 at 3:30 - 4:30. The 2nd session will be scheduled when D track is back.
Feb 2008: You may want to ask Tiffany Simons why she and her sister are taking a Personal Leave Day on March 10th, but only ask if you want to smile!
January 24, 2008
Our tardies are decreasing nicely over the past few months. Continue to encourage the students, and give yourselves a pat on the back for the good work!
October - 415 tardies (19.76 per day), November - 306 tardies ( 16.1 per day), & December - 251 tardies ( 16.7 per day). January is a long month, so it will take work to keep up the great rate.
I need to know if anyone is completing a landmark year this year. If you are completing 15, 20, 25 or 30 years with Granite District, please let Becky know. (I do know that Shelly A. is at 20 years, and Evonne C. is at 15 years.) Anyone else?

Two things today:;
1) Remember Faculty Meeting this Thursday, January 10th at 7:30. See you there!
2) We will NOT be having a Dual Language Immersion program this next year. The data is not extensive enough in GSD to make a decision to go forward at this time. We'll keep a watch on the data and look at it for future years. We want to do what's right for our children!
Have an awesome day!
January 7, 2008
Good news, Mary's surgery went well. See the white board for more info.
Many classes have been finishing up their Spot On chart. When you are done, bring your chart to the office. Becky will schedule a time for the Shadow Puppet Activity with your class, and give you the materials for a new chart. It's a snowflake this time.
Happy Monday!
January 3, 2008
We're working on bringing down the tardies. You'll have a note in your box that should be sent home today, reminding parents of the need to be on time. Watch for fun rewards in the upcoming weeks.
Mary Nilsson is out and having surgery tomorrow. We are keeping our best thoughts with her.
Watch out for cold temps this week. You'll need to make recess decisions based on the current temps.
January 2, 2008
Well, we made it to 2008! I'm sorry to see 2007 go, as it was a good year in so many ways. It has been wonderful to have this terrific staff. I'm loving working with you. Welcome back after the holidays.
Now is the time to use our time in the most effective way possible. The students should be more settled, and the cold air will allow them to concentrate. Remember to use 1/2 day for Literacy and 1/4 day for Numeracy. The last 1/4 of the day is for Interconnections and "other stuff".
I have a favor to ask - When you sign a Restricted Recess Contract while on recess duty, please put your initials in the block with the yes or no. We have a few students who abuse the system - just the ones who need restricted recess. Be aware, also, that instead of having the student stay within 20 feet of you (for that level), you may have the student jog/walk to the fence and back with 20 feet between them and any other students. It's a way to wear out some students that need to burn energy.
December 19, 2007
Wow, it's been awhile since we've given info on this site. Life has been good but busy. You are all terrific. Thanks for the hard work you do, and for keeping the learning going.
The December checks are here today, BUT, you may not cash them until tomorrow (that's when it will be deposited.) Make sure the amounts are correct. Any corrections need to be to Becky or Vicki by the 20th in order to get things fixed before the break.
Get your planning done so that you can leave with the storm on Friday, which will come about 2 PM.
November 19, 2007
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. After the students are gone and your planning is done, you may leave (about 2:00). Hopefully, you got your planning done last week.
November 13, 2007
Our special Reading Night is tonight for students and parents. (Staff can come too, if they wish.)
D track Provisional teachers, today looks like a nice day to drop by. See you then.
Nov. 12 - More
The 2nd Quarter Math Benchmarks are still in printing. They will be here soon, we hear. You may do that pre-test when they arrive. Beginning in December, they will be on-line and will need to be taken on-line, except 1st grade, who made do on-line or paper/pencil (you'll have to copy the pre-test so you can post-test.)

Welcome back D track! We have missed you. We hope that you have missed us and are ready for this fun 9 weeks.
We have a busy week this week. Mary Beth and I will be observing and evaluating all Provisional Teachers by Thursday. We'll do pop-in visits unless you want us at a particular time. If so, let us know. Mary Beth is here Monday and Wednesday. I'm away on Wednesday morning.
A & B tracks will be having SEP Conferences this Wed. & Thursday. Be kind to these teachers. Their report cards will be run tomorrow. Sarah will be glad to run their SEP form IF they give her their login information. Talk with her directly.
I'll be finishing up the slide show (ABC) which will be run during the SEP Conferences. Feel free to drop by and get a preview.
Check your schedule for the Bullying/Cyberspace presentations. They'll be today.
Enjoy your full week and be sure to check the website and calendar.

Thanks to all who participated in Faculty Meeting today. It was great to get through the agenda, plus address questions, make comments and feel complete. Have I told you lately how awesome you are? Consider yourself told.
Extra cudos to the D track teachers who came to Faculty Meeting - even when off track. Diann Bowles, Greg Nelson, Kat Paulson, and Merilee Barry. Also cudos to Colette Rawlins, Tiffany Simons and Evonne Claflin (for a bit) who came to Faculty Meeting, even though they would be off for the day. That's tremendous dedication.
Just like the students have the 200 Club, the staff will have the 64 club. If you get a card for the 64 Club, drop by the office and pick a number to sign up for the club. The prize for the 1st completed row will be awesome! More hints later.
Once you have read this update and looked at the calendar, email me at Rebecca.Tesch@granite.k12.ut.us. There is something in it for those who respond before November 9th at Noon. Shhhhh... Don't tell anyone. Let them discover this information by themselves.

This Friday, Oct. 26 - we'd like you to work through the normal lunch time and take a later lunch @ 1:35 PM. Get your planning done for the 3 days to come. We'll be providing lunch and having a celebration as we've made some great gains. Friday will also be a regular Planning Day schedule with 3:10 being our ending time.
October 23, 2007
It's a busy week, but should be fun and exciting. Remember, that today @ 2:30, we'll be going outside and taking our "Drug Free" photo. As you come out, there will be jump ropes placed on the ground. Please have your students stand on both sides of the letter that is given to you. If you will place your students, it will go quickly and we'll be back to our day very quickly.
This Friday, we'll be having Books on Parade. Students will come dressed in costume and make-up (no masks). We'll begin the parade between 8:30 and 8:45 so that we make it to the Multi-Purpose Room about 9:00 AM. I'll be starting with the Kindergarten and moving in a clock-wise direction around the building. You are to make sure that the area in your room is easy to walk through. We'll be coming in on the left of the door (as you walk in) and moving around the perimeter of your class in a clockwise direction and leaving the room through the left of the door (as you walk out) and to the next class. As soon as the parade has passed through your room, your class joins the end of the parade. You'll be led through the entire school, including the MultiPurpose Room. As we return to your classroom, your students are to quickly sit down so that they may watch the remainder of the students come through the class.
The Kindergarten will just be going through the younger rooms and then will break off and go through the MPR and back to class (they have much to do on a short day.)
Here's a map of the parade route.
Please check the student's costumes. They should have a book or cover to go with their costume. If they don't, have them quickly make a cover. (Even a title on a piece of paper will do.) No weapons (even pretend), masks or skimpy outfits. Take care of the issue if you can, if not, have them come to the office and we'll help out.

I've had a couple of questions about getting to the site where we enter the CLN data - as the pink note asked us to do. So, here's the link to get there: CLN TEST DATA LINK.
If you'd like to find it on this web site and get it full sized, Go to Power Standards, and find it near the top of the page.
Remember, the user name is your whole email address (mine is rebecca.tesch@granite.k12.ut.us) and the password is the one you created.

We brought our the "Spot On" program tonight. Each teacher received a pumpkin chart with 1" squares in which to place the spot that students and teachers earn. Students may earn a "Spot On" spot when they are doing the right thing outside of their class. Teachers and staff members noticing good behavior would tell the child what they are doing right, and the say, "Spot On," while putting a spot, which the teacher initialed on the edge, on the child's shoulder.
When the child gets back to class, have the child share what they did right, and then put the spot on the chart in a square. Students may want to write their name on their spot to show their contribution (that's why the initial was on the edge.) When the chart is filled, the class gets a special activity. The first activity will be the Shadow Puppet Show and Workshop, put on by the administration.
Please give out at least 5 Eagle Pride tickets each week (for behavior which is consistently right, or which is beyond the norm.)
Please give out at least 25 Spot On spots each week. Extras are available at the office.

Congratulations to both C and B tracks. C, you've just completed a wonderful time off-track, and B, you've earned off-track time!
We have some sad news. Vadra Harris, one of our BHAs, had given her resignation as she needs a full-time job with benefits. We will miss her. Student Services has determined that they will not be replacing the 2nd BHA in schools where there are 2 BHAs and one resigns. So, not only will we miss Vadra, herself, we will miss having the position.

COMING UP: FACULTY MEETING - MONDAY, SEPT. 9, @ 7:30
We're coming to the end of a short week that felt longer than it was. Maybe we played too hard last weekend. ;-)
We've got a new few items on the bulletin board in the office. Be sure to check it out.
Please make sure your students know that next week has 2 short days, Wednesday and Friday.
Wednesday is our group collaboration time. We'll be discussing how the Positive Behavior... is going, and working on using our data to help student achievement. You'll be working together and in grade level groups. We'll begin in the Media Center at 1:30 on Wednesday. Friday, of course, is planning time.

Yahoo! We've made it to a long weekend, and more importantly, through the start up and SEP's for all of the tracks! What a day to celebrate.
Thanks to the 3rd Grade for the wonderful chips and treats in the Facutly Rooom. They've also done an awesome clean up. I have been so impressed with Kindergarten, First and Second grades and they have done the clean up AND provided a treat and positive comment for the faculty. You have all created a high standard to emulate. What a wonderful, caring tradition. Eagle Prides for all of you!
Kudos to Sue Boerke for taking on an out-of-level student who needs her grade level instruction.
Kudos to everyone of you who have received new students this week and have kept positive. It's hard to see you numbers growing so quickly, and in some cases, so much.
Enjoy your long weekend. Storm warning @ 2PM today.
August 30, 2007
Great news with our staffing. We have enough students to fund ALL of our current staff. Any additional students who enroll will be helping us get funding for aide time. The challenges are that we have some grade levels with very high class loads, including 2nd, 3rd, and 6th. Right now, you can send out your good vibes for students to move from Kindergarten, 4th and 5th grades.
There will be a storm warning for all teachers, tomorrow, Friday, August 31st. You will want to have all of your planning done by 2:00 PM.

We're excited to see our First Grade students sharing their sage advice in this morning's Salt Lake Tribune. To read the article, click here.
August 27, 2007
It has been a very busy start-up, BUT an extraordinary one. I have never seen such a cohesive and strong faculty. You are awesome!
I was so impressed when I saw the students walk in last Friday. It was a night and day difference from last year. Today in the lunch room was very nice. Students were taking care of their business and being respectful. It was a joy to help out today. I even got to eat with Leigh Anstadt's class, as they'd received enough points for their prize.
Tomorrow, some of our 1st grade students will be featured in a SL Trib article about "Advice for Incoming Kindergarteners" I can't wait to see what they say.
D track - remember SEP Conferences this Wednesday and Thursday.
All tracks - start planning your long weekend. You have off Monday, Sept. 3rd and Tuesday, Sept. 4th. Wow!!!
July 20, 2007

Each of these fine folks will have a new replacement, but we're waiting to find out exactly who that will be.
The work on the building is coming along.
New carpet is being glued down in the hall after repairs to the floor.
Six classrooms will have the carpet removed, floors fixed and new carpet installed starting on Saturday, July 14th. They are: the computer lab, G. Nelson's, Lean's, Claflin's, Hedquist's, & new 4th grade teacher.
The insulation is being removed from under the building.
Everyone can work in their room from Monday, July 16th onward. However, your desks will not be put into place until July 20th. Plan on working from the waist up in your rooms - in other words. Wait to do anything to the desks/chairs until Friday.
