Accelerated Reader
Rosecrest students improve their reading by practicing reading. One way we encourage reading is through the Accelerated Reading, or AR, program. Students participate in the AR program by doing the following:
-
Reading Level is Determined
Students first take the STAR test to determine their current reading level range. -
Students Select a Book
Next students find books within their reading level range. You can help at home by downloading the AR Booklist from below and checking out which books are within your child's reading level. -
Students Read the Book
The next step is the best part. Kids start reading. With a variety of books, students can be sure to find something that really sparks their interest in reading. Rosecrest teachers can offer suggestions for great reading. -
Students Take a Quiz
After the student has finished the book they go to a computer and take a quiz. Most of the books for our lower range readers have five questions, while more advanced readers are asked ten. These quizzes help to monitor reading and vocabulary growth. -
You Get Information
A "TOPS" report is then printed out that tells the student how well they did. You, as parents, can ask your child to bring home the TOPS report and offer another pat-on-the back for a job well done. But mostly, reading a good book is reward enough on its own.
