Welcome

Music

Rosecrest Elementary school is pleased to offer beginning Band and String instruction to students in the 5th and 6th grade this year. Orchestra and Band classes will meet during the school day and will be free of charge. Instruction will be offered on violin, viola, cello, and bass, as well as Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet Baritone, and Trombone. We do have a few school instruments available, but, as supplies are limited, some students may be asked to furnish an instrument. Local music stores offer very reasonable rental or lease plans for these instruments. Please do not obtain an instrument until
your child has received a written notice of the exact instrument needed. (We also ask that you avoid purchasing instruments from ebay, because they are made of cheap materials that break easily, and often, students with these low quality instruments would have an easier time learning to play, if they only had a better instrument to use).

Stringed and Band instrument instruction will continue to be available to your child through the 12th grade. Learning to play an instrument and belonging to the music program opens up a whole new world of friendships and fun. Your child will be able to take advantage of music performances with bands & orchestras at the middle and high school levels. The opportunities for playing a musical instrument after high school are abundant, with many universities offering scholarships for ensemble participation. Band and Orchestra provides a great foundation for your child in all aspects of life. In addition to music skills, students also learn self-discipline, group cooperation, problem-solving, goal-setting, self-expression, memory skills, concentration, poise, enhanced physical coordination, high self-esteem, and the importance of teamwork - skills in great demand in almost every aspect of life. Like all the arts, music also has a profound effect on the academic success of students.

Students will be required to commit to a full school year of music.

If you wish to enroll your child in the music program, please complete and return the application form handed out to 5th and 6th grade classes at the beginning of the year. If additional information is desired, please feel free to contact us at 646-5002 .
