A
Note from Mrs. Sorensen... November 2009
Hello
Parents of our 'Soaring Eagles!'
Fall is here and don't you just love when the leaves losetheir chlorophyll and their other colors come out to dazzle us with their glory? With the changing of the leaves we have the cold and wind so please make sure your child comes dressed appropriately. No flip flops or open toed shoes if you can possibly avoid them.
The month of November is filled with exciting things : it is Picture Day on November 4th, so SMILE, smile, smile! Another important set of dates are : SEP's, Parent-Teacher conferences are being held Wednesday and Thursday, November 18th and 19th. Report cards will be sent home at that time. If you have any questions, please feel free to email your student's teacher. If you need an email address, you may call the front office, and our Secretaries Donna or Kristy will be happy to give you the correct email address. You may also use the website, and find your student's teacher's email under the 'Staff' link.
Thanksgiving Holiday will be November 25, 26, and 27, so that makes Tuesday, November 24th a short day. School is dismissed at 1:30 PM on short days. Please mark your calendars for that week. We will have a special Thanksgiving Feast for school lunch one day on November and the students always enjoy that day with turkey and mashed potatoes aand gravy. Thanksgiving is a historical holiday and we celebrate working together and remember the things of which we are thankful. Please share with your child any special family traditions you might have and know that we are thankful for the students whom we love to see come to school every day, ready and willing to learn.
The school district has a new system to notify parents if a child is marked tardy or absent. This automated system calls your phone about 6PM. The system will leave a voice mail so please listen to it. We at school do not have access to that exact information. Also, we are trying very hard to keep all of our student safe, especially when they leave school at 3:45PM. Parents, you must be at the curb in the circle in front of the school to pick up your students. Students may walk around the sidewalk and get into your car but there is no waiting in the second line (behind the cars at the curb). There is no walking or shortcutting across the traffic in the circle (between cars). Parents are welcome to park in the neighborhood and walk up to the front of the schoolto pick up students and walk them back to the car but please stay on the sidewalks and use the crosswalks. We are teaching our students to be safe and to follow the city laws as a pedestrian. Your help and example is very valuable to us. We appreciate your patience in our transitions. If you have any questions or concerns about the pickup system, please call me at 385-646-5014. That same number works for any concerns you might have about school policies or your child(ren).
We are in partnership with you, families of our students. We can do it together and your thoughts are invaluable to our school. If you wish to enter to volunteer or drop off lunches or for any other reason, please check in at the office and we will assist you and supply you with a temporary visitor's pass. Thank you for all you do: reading with your children every night and checking planners and communicating with teachers. Soaring Eagles are mighty and proud!
Yours in educating our children ,
Mrs. Sorensen
