Attendance
All students are required by State Law to attend school regularly with the exception of absences due to accident, illness or serious family emergency. Parents are asked to notify the school if their child will be absent for any reason (685-4906) and to send a written note upon their return. An answering machine is available for late night or early morning calls. The school secretaries will contact parents of absent children who have not called the school in order to verify the child's absence. A student who arrives late must sign in at the office before going to class.

Bikes, Skateboards, Scooter, and Roller blades
For the safety of all, bicycles, skateboards, roller blades and scooters may NOT be ridden while on school grounds during school hours. Students violating this rule, may have their item confiscated and may also lose the privilege of bringing the wheeled transportation to school.
Be aware that students choosing to ride their bikes should have a lock to secure their property. Also be aware that space is limited, and there may not be a secure place to store scooters, skateboards, or roller blades. Meadow Moor Elementary is not responsible for any item which is lost, stolen, or vandalized.

Dress Code
Experience indicates there is a reasonable connection between proper dress and grooming and maintaining a school climate conducive to learning. Clothing should be appropriate for the weather and the day's activities. Students are expected to be clean and modest in their dress. Clothing types that may not be worn to school include: tank tops, tops that expose the midriff, short shorts/skirts, low cut shirts, sagging pants, chains, and clothing that advertises drugs, tobacco, alcohol, or contains inappropriate language or illustrations. Shoes must be worn at all times. Flip flops are strongly discouraged. As a matter of courtesy and to allow teachers to maintain clear eye contact, hats may be worn outside only.

Early Dismissal
Children needing to be excused early from class for appointments or family emergencies must be signed out at the OFFICE by the parent/guardian. To ensure children's safety, only adults listed on the enrollment card, or authorized by the parent will be allowed to check out students.

Hall Passage
Student groups are to be led by teachers as they move through the building. Students needing to go through the halls without a teacher are to have a hall pass from the classroom teacher. In the halls students will:
• walk using quiet voices
• keep hands, feet and object to self
• respect adults and peers

Halloween
Modest costumes should be worn in compliance with the Granite School District safety policy and school dress code. Weapons of any type (real or imitation) should not be brought to school. For the safety of all, MASKS may NOT be worn by students or adults.

Hours for Students
Students are welcome to arrive at school 20 minutes before school begins or upon the arrival of the first school bus.
• All students will remain outside until school bell rings.
• In event of inclement weather, students will be allowed to enter the cafeteria. Students must abide by the rules of conduct set by the teacher if they remain in the building.

Lunch Program
School lunch menus will be provided monthly. Hot lunch is $1.20 and milk for students bringing cold lunch is 25 cents. Money for lunches will be collected in each classroom Monday mornings. Applications for the Free and Reduced priced lunches are available at the office and take ten days to be processed. Granite District policy prevents the school from extending credit for lunches. All lunches MUST be paid for in advance.

Medication
Parents are asked to make the school aware of any medical problem a child might have so that we can be better prepared to assist them. If a student becomes too ill to remain in class, we will contact you by phone so that you can come to school and pick up your child. Please keep all telephone numbers current and list an emergency contact person. A student that contracts a contagious disease or condition, such as pink eye, chicken pox, ringworm, impetigo or lice will be sent home from school and must remain home until the condition or disease is corrected. School personnel cannot administer any medication (including aspirin, antibiotics or eye drops) without written permission. Forms are available in the office and require written permission from the parents and current written instructions from the student's private physician. Medication must be brought to school by an adult and must be in the original pharmacy labeled container. Written authorization must be updated each school year and/or when medications, dosages or administration times are changed. Students may not have medication with them nor may they bring it to school in their lunches. The only exception is for inhalers used for asthma, which still requires written parent and doctor permission forms.

Newsletter and Web Page
A school newsletter will be sent home the first of each month from the PTA. Parents are asked to look for this information so they can remain current on school events.
School policies and the PTA newsletter are posted on the web page. All classrooms also have their own web pages and students are encouraged to check often. Parents may also e-mail teachers with any questions or concerns.

Safe School Policy
For the safety of students, staff, and visitors to our school, the Granite School District Board of Education has adopted a strict School Safety Policy which absolutely prohibits the following:
• Any threat or act of violence
• Possession of any weapon (real or facsimile) regardless of intent
• Any form of gang related activity
• Any type of criminal behavior
• Any destruction or defacement of school property
• Willful disobedience or persistent defiance to authority
Violators of this policy may subject themselves to:
• Immediate request for police investigation
• Automatic suspension from school
• Mandatory parent or guardian conference with school or district authorities
• Referral to district Student Services office for placement determination
In cases involving severe or repeated violations the student:
• May be placed in an alternative program
• May be expelled from school

School Rules
We believe all students can behave appropriately while at school. Any behavior which disrupts the educational process or infringes upon the rights of others will not be tolerated. Therefore, the goals of our behavior management program are to help students develop self-discipline and learn problem-solving skills while maintaining a safe, clean and positive environment conducive to learning. Granite District Policies, general school-wide guidelines, and individual classroom rules have been established for the standard of conduct that is expected.
• Students are expected to immediately and respectfully follow directions given by adults, whether in the classroom, lunchroom, halls or on the playground.
• Students may use computers only with direct supervision of teachers.
• Students must agree to obey the rules governing internet use and must have a current parent permission slip on file to use the internet.
• Copies of all school rules are provided to parents. Positive behavior will be acknowledged and rewarded. Students who fail to observe these rules subject themselves to discipline, such as white slips, time out, detention, revocation of privileges and/or suspension.
• Students will also have an opportunity to correct the behavior. Parents will be notified of violations.
We appreciate your support in maintaining a safe environment for learning.

School Property
Students are expected to maintain pride in the school by respecting the building, grounds and all other school property. Textbooks, library books and computer equipment, etc. are available to be used by students at no charge. Students have the responsibility of maintaining these items in good order and according to established rules. Fines will be charged for lost or damaged materials.

Telephone
Messages for students may be taken by the office staff when there is an emergency or when it is essential for a student to receive information. Since the telephones are constantly in use for school business, students will only be allowed to call home when given permission by their teacher. Going to a friend's house or other social arrangements are to be made at home with parent consent before school. Student cell phone use is allowed only before/after school, outside of building. No use at recess/class time is allowed. A School Directory is prepared each year by the PTA. Parents must give written permission for their phone numbers to be included.

Visitors
Parents, volunteers, and visitors are always welcome at Spring Lane. To ensure the safety of students and staff we ask that all visitors to our building sign in at the office and obtain a visitor's pass before going to the classrooms. We also ask that prior to any visit with a teacher, a time is pre arranged so as not to take away from a student's learning time.
