Dear Upland Terrace Family,

The month of September was a very busy month at Upland Terrace. Our students and parents were able to take part in many fun activities to get the year started with a bang. Upland community members skated the night away at our PTA Skate Night that took place during the first week in September. Our 2nd through 6th grades had the opportunity to hear President Obama speak to the nation’s school children about the importance of setting goals and getting a good education. We also had our annual “Road to Success” Reading Program kick-off assembly, and Chief, the mascot guest of honor, was a big hit. Thanks goes out to Amy Garff for the tremendous amounts of effort that she continues to put into the “Road to Success” Program!

We hope all parents and students had a relaxing fall break and are ready for an exciting month of October. Red Ribbon Week will take place during the week of October 12th. Each day of the week will be filled with fun activities to help students learn ways to prevent themselves and others from getting involved with drugs, while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Our Reflections program is also running during October. The theme is “Beauty is…”, and the due date for entries is Oct. 23rd. For a detailed list of Reflections Category Guidelines please refer to the following website: http://www.utahpta.org/individual.htm. Our school pictures are Thursday, Oct. 8th and retakes will be on November 17th. Our first school fundraiser will also begin in October, starting on the 7th and running through the 21st. The estimated delivery date will be in late November to early December. We will also be having our annual Halloween Parade on October 29th. All parents and relatives are invited to come to school and see the spectacle. Details will be forthcoming.

Our school’s enrollment increased enough this year that we were able to add another session of afternoon kindergarten. Thank you to all the students and parents who helped to make this transition a smooth one. This was a needed adjustment and will be a great benefit to all the kindergarten students.
Please look for changes with the school parking lot to happen at the end of October. A plan is being formed by the community council and will be distributed and publicized in the coming weeks. It is a needed change to make the parking lot a safer place for our children. Thank you to all parents and volunteers that have made the start to the 2009-10 school year a tremendous success!

Sincerely,
Andy Carbaugh
