Whittier Elementary History
Whittier Elementary is almost 90 years old, is well cared for by our staff, and has been the local elementary school to many, many generations of long-time patrons. Bus Service is provided for all students who live 1 1/2 miles or more from school.Whittier has a school-wide drug and alcohol prevention program. Our students are learning discipline, self-respect, and pride through school wide incentive and recognition programs. Many teachers through our Career Ladder Program, develop and implement exciting and much needed programs for students of different needs, abilities and interests.
Special education services are provided for all students with disabilities.
Salt Lake City AT&T has established a partnership with Whittier Elementary. It's employees are released from work in order to tutor students. Thanks to AT&T, we receive 56 hours a month of community service.
John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892)
John Greenleaf Whittier was an American poet. His parents were Quaker
farmers. Whittier's poetry shows the influence of his Quaker religion,
and his
rural New England background. He was active in the anti-slavery movement
from 1833 to 1863.
