Parents, Students and Supports of Granger High School,
Many may be aware or have heard about stories in the Deseret News, the Tribune and over KSL radio that the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools placed Granger High School on “advised status.” This does not mean that Granger will lose its status for accreditation. This does not mean that Granger will loose the ability to give credit for its classes and issue diplomas of high school graduation. This does not mean that Granger High School is a sub par school. “Granger was placed on advised status because it had 30 teachers with excessive class loads, double the numbers from 2006.” This statement by Northwest Association of Accredited Schools paints an incorrect picture of Granger.

Granger High School’s musical was “Zombie Prom.” The show ran Feb. 21, 22 and 25. This was the musical tale of a teenage girl named Toffee and her “rebel” boyfriend, Jonny. When Toffee breaks up with Jonny, he throws himself into a nuclear cooling tower at a power plant. He returns from the dead as a teenage nuclear zombie.... Click here for more...
Two of our students were given very prestigious awards from the SL Vietnamese community. Vinh Huynh and Tuyen Ngo (both seniors) were awarded the “Vietnamese Outstanding Academic Achievement Awards.” They received beautiful plaques and a cash prize. It all occurred at the Chinese New Year celebration at the West Valley cultural center.
Jaylynn Tuatoo received the very distinguished “Martin Luther King Award” and $100. She received it on MLK day at a very special event at the U of U. on Jan 12.
Shelby Fotheringham received an Academic All-state Award for swimming on Sat. February 2nd at the 4A State Tournament. Only ten of these awards are given in 4A. Academic All-state Awards are given to those athletes that achieve at least a 3.75 Cumulative GPA by their senior year.
Granger's Future Business Leaders of America members competed at UVSC and came away with these awards: Crystal Horrocks – 1st in Accounting II and 3rd in Business Calculations; Carlos Soto – 4th in Accounting II; Alma King – 2nd in Marketing and 4th Business Ethics; Teresa Mendiola and Huan Phan – 2nd in Global Business; Jonathan Chestnut and Omar Martinez – 2nd in Management Decision Making; Asi Pilivi – 4 th Public Speaking I
Granger has been certified as an AVID school. It is the only high school in the state to receive that certification this year.
Science Students from Granger High School responded to the last wish of a terminally ill 5 year old boy. Hunter Winship a 5 year old boy who loves airplanes made a wish that he receive as many paper airplanes as possible to set a Guinness Book Of World Records. He has been diagnosed with a rare and deadly form of Burkitts cancer. One student Travis Lagitao, folded over 150 planes at home for this cause.
Nobel Prize Winner Mario Cappechi requested that one student and science teacher from each district attend his Nobel Prize Gala at the Grand Hotel. An essay contest decided the winner from each district. Shiwani Chauhan won the essay contest and will represent Granite School District and Granger High School at this prestigious, once in a life time event. The winning student was able to request that a parent and a biology or chemistry teacher attend the event as well. Shiwani will be taking her father, and teacher, Jelena Jensen (chemistry, Physics with technology, MESA ).
