  1. Welcome!
  2. Site Team Plan/Goals Review
    1. Remember that you are responsible for gathering the essential information, not providing it.
    2. Please remember to review the goals.

Cornell notes are going well in the math department—history is struggling a little bit as far as dept wide—Phil chairs and Socratic sem report for next time.  Linda recommended a school-wide survey.  We want push the AP test.

  1. Divide up the students to mentor
    1. Spencer has mentor sheets for us—Our goal is to touch base with them once a month.

AVID student assignments will be forthcoming.  Please make contact with your students and be ready to report on them by the next meeting.  See Spencer for your mentor log.

  1. Field Trips—
    1. First field trip is Juan Diego College Fair Sat. 11th October 2008 12:00-4:00—if you’d like to come, please do!  We’ll have a rockin’ time!
    2. Other 2008-2009 college field trips tentatively planned are Weber State, U of U and Utah State.
    3. Next year’s college agenda:  Westminster, BYU, UVU, U of U
    4. Cultural Field Trips:  Hale Center play (hopefully), Sundance Film Festival, a Bee’s baseball game, and Planetarium.
    5. Students may only attend the field trips if they are passing all of their classes (NO F’s and only one D), with parent permission, teacher permission and AVID classroom teacher permission.

Linda suggested Pioneer Theater.  Marta informed up that the Planetarium is free before noon.  Also, since it will cost a lot to go to Utah State, we will look into having our junior and senior students go on the Granite School District trip Nov 21-22.

  1. AVID bucks
    1. As an incentive program, AVID bucks may be used to purchase things from the AVID ‘store’.
    2. AVID STORE:  Includes AVID pencils, t-shirt, sweatshirt.  Also includes regular things like bottled water, normal pencils, pens, candy, gum, free binder check, etc.
    3. You may receive AVID bucks for:  Perfect Cornell notes for a week, perfect attendance for a week, each A or B on a report card in a core subject, outstanding behavior or attitude (determined by the teacher).
    4. If you have any recommendations let me know!

Spencer recommended having the students sell concessions at the sporting events that do not have concessions (soccer, softball, girls BB) for both service hours and money for the program.

Marta raised the question of how to get funding for the PSAT for  juniors (Oct 15th—if done well students can become National Merit candidates)and  PLAN for sophomores (Nov 5th)  Linda will look into it.
