Minutes of Previous Meeting:

SAFETY COMMITTEE MINUTES     SEC, FEB 20, 2008

Those attending:   Maile Loo, Doug Wagstaff, Bridget Bolland, Josh Miller, Ryan Shaw , Sandy Engh , Marilyn Taylor , and Jim Adams.

Follow up items:

1.   All of the eye wash stations have been installed in B-hall, except B-212, Bridget Bolland's room.

2.   The waste chemicals from the chemistry classrooms have been removed by Granite District.

3.   Doug reported that we now have teachers that are patrolling the halls during the lunches and between lunches.   The fire doors are being shut and tickets are being written.

4.   We purchased 500 emergency blankets so that each teacher may have five in their backpacks.   One was used during the evacuation last Thursday and the students reported that it worked very well.   The blankets will be distributed at March faculty meeting.

5.   The safety committee will be conducting an audit of classrooms during March looking for backpack placement and contents.   We will also be looking for safety concerns and that each room has a functional flashlight.

New items:

1.   Maile requested that the committee develop a power outage plan.   Some of the suggestions that were presented were as follows:

          A.   Open blinds and doors.

B.   Teachers need to be close enough to the door to hear any announcements coming via the administration at the inside end of the halls.

C.   Students are to stay in the classrooms unless there is a safety concern.   (Safety issues will be treated as a fire alarm.)

          D.   Teachers are to continue teaching and monitoring students.

E.   Teachers will need to keep track of the time and dismiss classes at the regular time and then stand in the halls to encourage students to move quickly to their next class.   (Maile will be in contact with the district to determine if, or when, school will be dismissed.

2.   Riding and Stoddard reported that they do not have a backpack in their classroom, B-206.   Bridget will try and locate any extra packs.

3.   Having had two fires in A-hall this year, we need to have a fire extinguisher placed in Jerry Miller's room and one in Bridget Bolland's room for quick access.   The fire extinguisher that is in the janitorial closet is locked up and not readily accessible.

4.   Doug reported that five additional cameras have been ordered and will be installed during the summer.   This will help with the problems in A-hall and the increased tagging on the South end of the campus.
