School Policies And Procedures

  1. ATTENDANCE
    1. Absences:
      1. Parents or guardians may excuse a student's absence either by sending a note with the student or calling the attendance office on the same day of the absence.
        • Students absent from school (who choose to bring a note from their parent/guardian excusing their absence) may give it to their first or second period teacher or to the attendance office before 7:30 a.m. on the first day returning from an absence(s).
        • Granite School District differentiates between excused and non-excused absences as stated below:
          1. Excused absence - personal illness, death in family, family emergency, court appearance, unusual circumstances at home, etc. Long term illness - The parent/guardian should contact the school; a statement from a physician may be required.
        • Unexcused absence- oversleeping, needed at home, babysitting, vacations, deer hunting, etc.
        • Pre-arranged absences- Student may need to miss school for brief periods of time during the year. In these situations, parents should contact the school to make arrangements for make up work prior to the student's scheduled absence(s). Students are responsible for all classwork and assignments missed. Pre-arranged absences should not occur during the final days of any term.

  2. Tardies:
    1. Students who are tardy and arrive to school before 8:00 a.m. are to report directly to class and should clear their tardy with the teacher (either by note or by parent phone call.)
      • Students who arrive to school after 8:00 a.m. should report directly to the attendance office where they will be given either an excused or unexcused admit. (Students should either bring a note or have their parents/guardian call the attendance office at 964-7578).

  3. School Check Out:
    1. Students who need to leave during school hours must check out through the attendance office andreceive a street pass. Parents will be contacted to verify legitimacy of note; students returning to school must check in at the attendance office where they will receive a pass admitting them to class.

  4. Truancy (Sluffing):
    1. Any absence from school that is not excused by the parent or the school is considered an unexcused absence and will affect students' citizenship.
      • Parents are notified by computer whenever their child(ren) are absent from class without an excuse.Repeated sluffing may result in suspension, parent conferences, and/or alternative educational placement. The computer never calls for tardies.

  • CITIZENSHIP
    1. Students earn citizenship through reasonable behavior and acceptable attendance. Teachers must issue a "0" if a student has two or more unexcused absences, and/or has been tardy 4 times. All high schoolstudents in the Granite School District must maintain a Citizenship Point Average of 2.0 to successfully meet graduation requirements.
      • Students wishing to appeal "0" grades must do so directly with the issuing teacher within nine weeks of the end of the previous term. There will be a citizenship enhancement class (Detention) that students may attend to improve their citizenship point average.

  • DRESS CODE
      Public school is a place for learning; inappropriate dress adversely affects the school climate. Hunter High's dress code is stated below:

    1. Appearance should not disrupt the learning process.
    2. Dress should be clean, modest, and safe; underwear should not be seen through outer wear.
    3. Shoes or sandals are required; bare feet or socks only are not allowed.
    4. Shorts should be mid-thigh or longer. Cut off, frayed Levi's or shorts are inappropriate.
    5. Tops must cover the midriff and navel; Muscle T's, tank tops, and halters are prohibited.
    6. Bandannas, headbands or hairnets are unacceptable.
    7. Clothing or mode of dress which may be interpreted as gang involvement is not allowed.
    8. Clothing which advertises tobacco, alcohol or drug abuse is not allowed.
    9. Clothing which displays vulgar or offensive language or which states or infers sexual behavior is prohibited.School administrators reserve the right to make the final determination if an item of clothing is inappropriate.
    10. Protective headwear or clothing must be worn for hazardous conditions or if requested by the instructor of the class.

  • ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
    Students planning on seeking office or participating in any Utah High School Activities Association endorsed event should be aware of the listed requirements concerning standards of eligibility. This standard must be met during the term immediately preceding each term(s) of competition and throughout the respective terms of office. Eligibility is checked at each term end when grades are posted.

  • GATES
    Gates are installed at the north and south ends of the student parking lot. The south gate is locked at 8:00 AM and opened at 2:00 p.m. Students may leave campus during lunch, home or work release, with a street pass, or when enrolled in a class at another campus. Students must have an activity card, school I.D. or Hunter pass to enter or leave the school. The parking lot may not be used as a thoroughfare for the public.
