Focuses on behavior, which should result in knowledge of physical, mental,
emotional, and social needs of students and to prepare for a healthy
long life.
64600 ADVANCED HEALTH (CC-SLCC)

This class explores a wide variety of contemporary health issues, including
stress management, AIDS/HIV, alcohol abuse, suicide, heart disease,
and cancer. Students will also be certified in First Aid and advanced
CPR. This is an accelerated course that required hard work and should
be taken by students who are college bound and who have an interest
in the Health Sciences. Students in this course have an opportunity
to receive concurrent enrollment credit in Health Science, First Aid,
and Stress Management from Salt Lake Community College.
98001 MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY
10-12 YEAR
FEE REQUIRED: $20.00 WORKBOOK
If you are interested in going into the medical field this class is
a must. Learn the special vocabulary and abbreviations used by health-care
professionals. A variety of teaching methods will enable you to remember
familiar words and understand new ones. These methods involve your breaking
each word into its component parts, learning the meaning of these parts,
and recognizing them when they appear in different words.
98301 INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY/CONSUMER HEALTH
10-12 YEAR
FEE REQUIRED: $5.00
This is a class for students who may want to pursue a health-related
career. Students will be introduced to a wide variety of careers along
with information on human anatomy and physiology. Consumer health issues
will also be addressed in this year-long class. At the conclusion of
this course students should be able to decide if a health career appeals
to them, and which classes to take next. Students going into health
sciences (careers requiring a college degree or more) will move on to
Health Occupations Overview. Students interested in a more technical
field could take nurse aide, EMT, pharmacy aide, or a variety of technical
classes. This class earns ½ year of health credit. Students need
to stay in this class for the entire year. Students entering late or
leaving early will still receive vocational credit but may not receive
health credit. A 3.0 GPA and a willingness to work are recommended for
this course.
98411 MEDICAL ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY

Health occupations are the fastest growing nationwide employment field.
The KHS MAP course is designed for students who are interested in pursuing
a career in Health Science. Using the body systems as a foundation,
we will explore a variety of health-related careers focusing on current
health trends and job shadowing. The course will also include hands-on
labs, field trips and guest speakers. Students will also achieve competency
in medical terminology, ethics, and health care systems.
98501 SPORTS MEDICINE/EXERCISE SCIENCE
10-12 YEAR
FEE REQUIRED: $25.00
This full year course is designed to teach students components of sports
medicine, including detailed anatomy, injury evaluation, management,
and rehabilitation. Health careers associated with sports medicine will
be discussed and introduced. CPR certification will also be earned.
11th or 12th grade students who have completed health, human biology,
anatomy, physiology, or health occupations are eligible to enroll. 10th
grade students can take the class if they have letters of recommendation
and a teacher's signature.
