In-Season Awards
Weekly, in-season awards can be used to provide immediate recognition and, if properly instituted and carried out, can be used as a way to foster team unity.
An effective way to award in-season awards is with traveling awards that rotate to different players each week.
WEEKLY AWARDS
Scout Team Award:Each week of the season two non-starters will be selected as the hardest working offensive and defensive non-starters on our team for that week. (At practice, they get to wear the special white jerseys, it is their right to wear it weekly until somebody else earns it away.)
Special Teams Award:Each week of the season an individual will be selected who displays the best technique on our special teams. The winner could be a punter, snapper, lineman, kick-off return man or anyone who displays good techniques. (At practice he gets to wear the special teams "terrible towel" weekly until someone else earns it away.)
Defensive Lineman-Linebacker Award: Each week of the season an individual will be selected who displays the best defensive line or linebacker technique. (At practice he will get to wear the special black jersey that only he can wear until someone else earns it away.)
Defensive Back Award:Each week of the season an individual will be selected who displays the best defensive back technique. (At practice he will get to wear the special black jersey for the week until someone else earns it away.)
Offensive Lineman Award:Each week of the season an individual will be selected who displays the best offensive line technique. (At practice he will get to wear the special green jersey that only he can wear until someone else earns it away.)
Offensive Back-Receiver Award:Each week of the season an individual will be selected who displays the best offensive back or receiver technique. (He will get to wear the special green jersey for the week until someone else earns it away.
Hit City Award: Players will be given special hats at the coaches discretion for hits that meet the predetermined requirements.
Positive incentives and rewards give the players ownership in their own team and makes going to practice more fun.
*Each of these award winners will also be recognized weekly on the Olympus High School Football website.
Post-Season Awards
Recognizing players at the end of the season for their achievements both on and off the field exemplifies the slogan;
"It takes a little more to become a Champion".
