DISCIPLINE

One of the Foundations of Titan Football

The Olympus High School Football Program believes in a strong emphasis on discipline as a must to be successful. Discipline is spoken of in three areas - off the field Social Discipline; on the field Practice Discipline and Academic Discipline.

SOCIAL DISCIPLINE

The Coach Smith feels strongly that a person has certain social responsibilities if he is going to be a football player at Olympus. We expect each young man to follow the rules of our society, and he will be expected to abide by all rules set forth by our High School Administration. If there is any negative involvement with the local law authorities, that player who is involved may be suspended from the team. Young men participating in football should not be involved in any DRUGS whatsoever. Any player involved with ANY DRUGS will be suspended from the football team and given due process by our administration.

As for ALCOHOL and TOBACCO, we all know the damages that they have on the human body. As young athletes, you should look for ways to make the body stronger instead of ways to abuse it. Coach Smith will suspend any player from the team who is caught drinking or smoking during the football season and that individual will be given due process by our administration. Party attendance where alcohol, drugs, and tobacco are present could jeopardize your standing on the football team. Stay away from theses types of situations.

Grooming is the last Social Discipline that is demanded during the season. In season, each young man will maintain his hair so that it fits under his helmet. His hair will be groomed in such a manner befitting a young man and the football program. Hair will be short enough so the head gear will fit properly for maximum protection.

PRACTICE DISCIPLINE

The next area is on the field and Practice Discipline. Anyone with football experience realizes that football is a very disciplined game. We demand discipline from our players in many areas. Ability to discipline yourself to do what you are told to do on the field is a must. It is also important that a player be disciplined to be on time to ALL PRACTICES OR MEETINGS. All players injured or ill have an obligation to attend all practices and meetings unless otherwise decided by Coach Smith. Players who are excessively late and absent without being excused may be dismissed from the football team at the coach's discretion. If a player elects to miss a practice or meeting, consequences may will range from not being allowed to dress and participate in the following game or games at his level of competition to reduced playing time as determined by the Head Coach. Absences and tardies will not be tolerated at any time during the season. We expect all players to be PUNCTUAL at all times.

ACADEMIC DISCIPLINE

The last area is Academic Discipline. Olympus athletes are expected to attend each and every one of their classes, and to be on time. Studying is IMPORTANT. Our athletes must be self-disciplined to study while going through the strenuous football season. It is essential that all of our athletes maintain their grades during the football season. Football players will periodically have academic progress checked. If academic performance is not acceptable this may result in dismissal from the team, probation, susupension or decreased playing time until the problem is corrected.

REMEMBER: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO THINK AND LEARN TO PLAY THIS GAME. FOOTBALL IS NOT A GAME FOR DUMMIES!

Discipline is important to football and is a must at Olympus. It is one principle that our football program is built on.
